If breakfast had been an option, I would probably have taken it.

I didn't know they did breakfast. I left at 8am and there didn't seem to be any staff on duty' I left my room key on the desk.

Wi-Fi not available in rooms, but this is the nature of such an iconic building

The bed was very comfortable and there was a double sofa recliner. I was having a difficult couple of days and this made a lot of difference. The host was very kind and remembered me from a previous visit

The hotel has obviously seen better days. It’s tired and worn in places with paintwork fading and wallpaper peeling in places.

The concierge Jim was fantastic, he’s a credit to the hotel.

    Lack of facilities

Turned up and was shown to the room only to be told the bar was closed and there was no dinner service only breakfast so we left , a waste of £90 , wish we were told at the time of booking the facilities were so poor ..

Breakfast was awful. Breakfast was served in the bar, which still had dirty glasses on the bar from the night before. The reception desk had remenants of a an Indian takeaway sitting there for the duration of the morning. Bar area was not ready for breakfast until way after 8am. Young waitress was on her own, but was trying her best. Breakfast itself was very small and all seemed to be deep fried. Hash brown was still frozen in the middle. A lot of renovations were on going, but not a lot of effort to keep standards up in the meantime. Advertised as being manned 24hrs but no staff when we arrived and did not see anyone when we left, only the waitress. Front door seemed to be open all night. Heavily overpriced for what is offered. Of the 2 night stay, we only stayed 1 night due to how dreadful it was.

The room I was in was clearly newly refurbished, and the bathroom still seemed a little basic. The room was leaking a little too, not a lot, just a little drip in the corner of my room - no trouble to me but it was a little off-putting.

Beautiful room with very traditional Scottish vibes. The building itself is gorgeous, and conveniently situated right next to the ferry terminal. The bar staff were incredibly friendly and all employees were very helpful.

Beautiful building and I was blown away by the stainglass windows inside. Room had everything we needed, plenty of towels, loo rolls and lots of tea and coffee making facilities. Our room was quite basic compared to the pictures I'd seen of rooms on booking.com but it was very clean and comfortable still. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't serving food for dinner but we were able to get a takeout to our room and the staff in the hotel provided plates and cutlery for us, which was really kind and helpful. All the staff were really welcoming and just seemed genuinely happy friendly people which made us feel very comfortable.
