The wait for cooked breakfast was very long and took 40 minutes. The parking is an issue and perhaps could be improved so that only residents and not visitors could park. The decor in the room and bathroom needs a little updating and looks a little dated. Comfortwise, the room was good and we had a good nights sleep.

The location was in the heart of Colchester. Room was a good size and the bathroom had a bath. Bed is comfy. Continental breakfast selection was good.

The room (111) was very hot with no air con. There was a stand fan in the wardrobe but it was fresh air that was needed. We did manage to open the windows but it wasn’t easy. It would have been better if they were already open when we arrived so the room was aired.

We only stayed 1 night and arrived late in the evening so didn’t really spend enough time there to comment. Nice big room though (three adults).

No restaurant. There is no way Best Western could legitimately call this a Boutique Hotel, as their advertising within the building said.

We arrived 15 minutes before 3pm and couldn’t check in, because it wasn’t 3 pm yet. That’s quite rigid. Other hotels check you in even if the room isn’t ready yet. By the time the whole check in process was finished, it probably would have been 3 pm anyway. The booking said that the room was downstairs on ground level which it wasn’t. There was also a train line outside, with trains passing by even during the night. The net curtain hanging in front of the window stopped about 10cm short, which was strange. The cups in the room were too large for the coffee machine, so we couldn’t use it. There were no cups in the bathroom for brushing teeth, or taking medication. The receptionist said that she thought that they had stopped putting cups in the bathroom because of Covid. Which is strange because they still put coffee cups in the room.

It’s a nice old building with beams, a bar, and parking on site.

It doesn't do evening meals during the week 😕 it means I have to outsource for my evening meals which is an inconvenience.

Have stayed here a few times now, and will continue to do so when working around the area. I get a good night's sleep and it's reasonably priced. Oh and a good breakfast lol 😁

The breakfast was lovely, but the table was sticky (from not being thoroughly cleaned over time) and the coffee and tea pots were covered in dust!

A really characteristic place with 100s of years history, including creeking floors. Lovely place with loads of beams inside and outside.

Leak from shower door which collected at back of toilet and around sink pedestal, also had to run cold tap for ages before water came cold.

Receptionist was a little impolite. I hadn't been informed of the £50 deposit until we were paying for the room.

Robert was very polite and helpful collecting glasses for our room.

Our room was lacking in hanging/storage space requiring us to live out of our suitcases for our short stay - slightly inconvenient but not a deal-breaker for us as there was sufficient floor space for that arrangement.

A very nice blend of old and new. Our bedroom (in a detached building) was very modern, comfortable and (mostly) well appointed -see below. The offered breakfasts were very good. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. We mostly walked everywhere and found the location handy for visits to the Castle and the town centre.
