Old fashioned hotel with charm and good food and welcoming staff.

No complaints. I didn't want a characterless modern box hotel, but an old fashioned one with character and maybe some minor flaws, but I was happy with everything and the room rate for two nights was cometitive.

Evening meal was great, with a good choice and discounts for residents, or meal deals for two, which were great value. Breakfast was also generous. Staff were very friendly, efficient and willing to please. This is an old building with plenty of character and to be enjoyed as such. There is a big car park and access to the town centre is easy from the A27

Room lighting a bit dark in bedroom (Rm 71) ... would have been nice to have a mirror over the tea/coffee making facilities

Good location with plenty of parking

as it is an old building it is bound to have its quirks , creaking floorboards .... the room doors (fire doors) could use some fire resistant padding between the door and the frame to help soften the doors noise at night

After using the premier inn in gosport this place was like a palace , great staff , very clean , great breakfast ..... I would recommend this place to others and will be booking to stay here from now on .... Also fairly close to the Bus/Coach station so excellent over all

Our room needed some TLC quite musty when we arrived. Some of the trim in the bathroom was peeling off too. Also really struggled to get the cold water to run cold.

Bed was very comfortable, great location

The one evening dinner we had I choose a Lasagne which seemed to have been just a re-heated dish, stodgy and not very flavour some.

The staff were very friendly. The room very comfortable if a little dated in the furnishing. The breakfast was very good but the one evening meal only average.

Nice old english coaching inn, good value, nice staff and comfortable - well worth a visit.

Our room had only 2 mains sockets but 3 or 4? bt sockets. Of the mains electrical plugs, one was a double and the single one had the t.v permenantly(?) plugged in- shouldn't that have its own spur. The one double socket was used for the nice sized new kettle, allowing the other half of the socket for one for a charger, and laptops. But no low voltage lights or chargers were by or near the bedside cabinets for use in the evening. Where a phone charger could have been placed. In the room there was a desk, but no folding or movable table to use under the window - if we wanted to eat in the room, which was quite warm comfortable and had a nice east prospect with average view.. one desk chair fine; and one comfortable lounge chair. Which meant my wife and I then had to choose who sat on it, or at the desk, or on the rather hard but very comfortable high bed. The addition of a folding suitcase stand, would also mean we don't have to put luggage on the bed either. The bathroom could have easily been upgraded by putting in three or four items items. One - an adjustable shower head in situ, as the pressure and heat where excellent but the spray more water cannon than sprinkler. Two, a Handrail on the wall to assist getting in the high sided bath more safely. Three, a few more hooks on the wall, especially to hang your towel near the shower. Fouth, a stool or folding seat on the wall to allow you to be seated when drying yourself down. Once again, the Bathroom facilities were in good condition but not new, but quite adequate for business visitors. Lastly, one to note- we were not young and not infirm - but being an old coaching type there is no lift. Luckily staying one night we had very little luggage, and we are relatively mobile. The stairs up to the top third floor are original, and not "British standard Elizabethan" - fine, but if you were asthmatic, access impaired or wonky on your pins, you might not like the climb up and down each time.

The staff were wonderful, the room adequate but in need of a few items- see below.. The overall condition and decor was fine but felt commercial. Parking was free, and the hotel placed quietly but central with lots of period atmosphere. The breakfast was very good value, and served by very helpful staff. Overall good value, and well placed in town or as a base for the Portsmouth / Gosport / Hayling Island area.
