Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt was expensive for a room and then we had to pay extra to park the car and for breakfast.
Location was brilliant. Room was quaint, nicely decorated and clean with wonderful views of the Ashmolean and Balliol College.

United KingdomTerrible music being piped over the tannoy in the lounge. Lifts rattle and need stabilising. Gaudy decoration which does not quite fit the dignity of a beautiful building.
Comfortable bed and good location. Excellent desk, concierge and bar service.

United StatesThe bar and restaurant service was poor. It took an extensive time to get any service despite repeated requests. The same was true in the dining room. We only tried the breakfast, which was a buffet but it took forever or you were completely forgotten to get coffee or tea. The tables were small so there was no one to remove a plate to make room for anything else. I also questioned if many of the staff even understood enough English to know what you were even asking for.
Beautiful historic building in ideal location. Large room. Very comfortable bed.

SwitzerlandThe restaurant is good, I had breakfast and dinner and both were very good. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Barman was very knowledgeable about cocktails and the spirits he was serving. Location is excellent, in the heart of Oxford and close to many of the sights.

United KingdomHadn’t got room sorted when we arrived, and had to chase up to get our luggage. For the relative cost, I had high expectations. Corridor on top floor was tired with paint peeling off the wall. No explanation if there were renovations happening.

United KingdomWe never managed to get the hot water working in the shower, which is disappointing in a hotel of this standing. The restaurant staff seemed very new and not hugely clued up, and the restaurant itself was more pretentious than truly high quality. The food was good but the beer was stale, we were asked to wait for a table when the restaurant was all but empty, and dessert was served in a glass instead of an appropriate dish, making it hard to access.
The location was perfect, the hotel staff lovely and the room quiet and very comfortable. We slept really well.

United KingdomCold showers on the Sunday, bedroom requests i.e. milk, pillows not actioned, long wait for the lone gentleman manning the leave luggage to be able to attend to us. For a very expensive hotel this was disappointing.

United KingdomBreakfast was very disappointing and over priced. The bacon was barely cooked, the eggs overcooked, the coffee very weak and the pot of tea lukewarm. The pancakes were good as was the yoghurt and berries. A lively hotel let down by its breakfast.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel was very well appointed and clean. Room was a great size , comfortable and very clean. The hotel is well situated for walking around Oxford.

United KingdomWe were assigned a room on the top floor, which was accessible only by a steep, narrow staircase from the 4th floor that starkly contrasted with the rest of the hotel's decor. It felt like navigating through attic corridors to reach our room. I believe the floor our room was located on must have actually originally been some sort of an attic, later converted to accommodate additional guest rooms. While the room itself was very pleasant, the journey to get there was rather uncomfortable and probably inaccessible for anyone with slight mobility issues. So make sure to request a room on the lower floors.
Visited this hotel for one night as a valentine's trip with my partner. The hotel's interior is beautiful and classic, and its central location is incredibly convenient. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was very spacious and clean.
