Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt didn’t mention that there was an aga in the description- it took a long time to cook our food which was unexpected. However it was a nice feature in the kitchen.
Great location and sizeable property. Nice views from each room and very clean and comfortable.

United KingdomThe house could be a problem for guests with mobility problems, due to the steep stairs. Two of the bedrooms are on the second floor and a third, above the dairy, is acessed by a particularly steep staircase. This is not a complaint, just something to think about. Only one of our four couples could manage it. Also, only one of the bedrooms is en-suite - that may or may not be important.
A house full of history and character. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. The dairy, with extra fridges and a sink, was very useful. Thankfully, in a house of such antiquity, the bathrooms were very much C21! The open fires were much appreciated as Autumn set in, and the Aga kept us very warm. The grounds were extensive with many delightful features.

United KingdomNothing to dislike but we would have liked a few more instructions in the property about use of the Aga and the heating. Tall people need to take care with some low ceilings especially when entering the house!
We all loved the beautiful grounds, the enormous well equipped kitchen and all the quirky features of the house. Our family enjoyed the piano and the outdoor games. We appreciated the way Mirek responded to our questions before our arrival.

United KingdomNothing.
Beautiful historic building in a beautiful setting. Everything is provided, from kitchen towel to croquet hoops, from grater to grand (well, baby grand) piano. We were a group of six but there is easily space for 12 without being crowded (3 reception rooms). The piano was a lovely bonus. The property feels lived-in and homely, and would be brilliant for, say, and extended family group, with plenty of space for kids to run around. We had unexpectedly fine weather so spent quite a lot of time outside. There are lots of board games etc. if you are stuck indoors. Mirek was very prompt to answer messages and the information on accessing the property was good. We wished we were staying longer. I am trying to think of an occasion to go back!

United KingdomSome of the lounge furniture & beds although characterful were past there best. Felt a little rushed to vacate the property to get the cleaners in, but on arrival were able to access keys an hour earlier than scheduled which may explain why that’s the case.
Beautiful & very interesting character house. The layout of the house & garden worked extremely well for us & the family. Wonderful kitchen & drawing room. Very peaceful setting close to Saffron Walden & the piano was perfectly tuned.

Fantastic place,so well equipped. Everything you could wish for in a kitchen, even supplied, fairy liquid, dishwasher tabs, tea towels, loo rolls etc.It was perfect for us 12 friends, lots of different rooms to chill in. The garden is fantastic and we spent a lot of time sitting round the garden table eating Al fresco. Lots of garden games provided too. We used croquet which was a laugh. Beautifully soft towels provided for every room and even the downstairs loo. We were checked on to make sure everything was satisfactory. Thoroughly recommend for big party of friends or family.

United KingdomI cannot state how much we absolutely loved Pounce Hall! It's a very comfortable period family home that oozes with character and charm and creates an instant atmosphere of relaxation and ease. Our party consisted of individuals from the ages of 70-2yrs and everyone had a wonderful time. Not only is the home spacious and friendly, but the garden/grounds are extensive and beautiful and the views all around the property are stunning. It feels very cut off and yet is very close to amenities. No one wanted to leave (including the now depressed labrador). Thank you so much Olly and Mirek for the easy communication.

United KingdomThe heating had been set to 10 degrees so although it was on a timer it didn't actually come on. Finding the thermostat was a bit of a mission but once we did we got it sorted. And the key safe is well hidden from the door - quite tricky to find. I think it would be better if you gave more detailed instructions of where it is on the check in details. And some champagne flutes would be a welcome addition! All very minor points
The house is spacious and very homely. We really felt at ease in the surroundings and it suited our entire group ranging in age from 2 - 80! Having the 3 separate lounges made it easy to relax either as a group or just a few at a time in various rooms. Having the open fires was great and there was plenty of logs etc. While the big spacious kitchen was the ideal place to enjoy just hanging around together. Plenty of fridge and freezer space and great cooking facilities. The gardens were great for the kids to run around in and for the adults to wander. It's a great family home and not so grand that you feel on edge. It's certainly not like a 'holiday' house - it's a real home from home. We hosted an afternoon birthday tea which was catered by Bombshell Bakes - if you are thinking of a tea or celebration cake then google them - absolutely brillilant. Saffron Walden just down the road is a charming old market town and Audley End House is well worth a visit. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pounce Hall and will certainly go back in the future.

United KingdomThe entrance door is well camouflaged in the brown wall next to the driveway. Keep an eye out for the low doorway at the dairy entrance, and several low ceilings and uneven floors around the house. It's part of the historical feel but you need to be careful not to bump your head. Having the Aga stove on all the time made it very warm in the kitchen. Would be great in winter but less so during a hot summer. We just opened the windows though which helped. The view from the windows at the front of the building towards farm equipment was less nice than the other three views. (The other views were absolutely gorgeous though, so it's relative!) We would have liked to be able to check out at 11am instead of 10am.
Gorgeous location in quiet rural countryside but still very close to town and a supermarket, either to drive or walk to. A large garden area to explore, and for little ones to run around. We enjoyed the fruit trees in the garden. Lovely big kitchen with plenty of space around the table for everyone. Plenty of room around the house to relax and play. We liked that there were board/card games and children's toys, they were fun and helped the place feel homely. Also a smart TV with Netflix etc. Everything was very clean and well cared for. House was well equipped and we had everything we needed. Olly, and Mirek (who we met) were very helpful, friendly and quick to respond to any questions. Comfy bedrooms, the location was quiet and we all slept well. There was a larger than average travel cot which was great for our little one. A historical, traditional feel to the house, yet all modern conveniences - exactly what you'd expect and hope for from an old English country manor. We loved the nearby steam railway which was great for children. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to family groups.

United KingdomThe only thing we struggled with was local transport. There were no taxis available at all, so make sure you book them in advance if you need to.
It’s a lovely house with everything you could need for a largish get together. The grounds are also great for a stroll a game of badminton or croquet. we had a super time.
