Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNo plug for sink/bath.
The property is straight across from The Marlowe Theatre where I was attending a show. Rooms are well presented and have everything that I needed. (Apart from a plug for sink/bath) I have stayed before in a different room and not sure if it had plugs either. A shame to have a bath that you can’t use and shower has to be held up so didn’t get showered till I returned home next morning. Reported to reception that there was no plug on leaving.

United StatesNothing.
This historic Pilgrims Hotel is located in the heart of Canterbury City Centre, making it a perfect location next to The Marlowe Theatre and a short walk to the Cathedral. The continental breakfast was good and hearty with lots of options. We appreciated staff help with luggage as the hotel has no elevator. The room was spacious and given the weather was warm during our 3-night visit, we were glad to have a fan in our room. The staff was very helpful and accommodating.

United KingdomBreakfast options were a bit one-sided. As a diabetic I have to keep my carbs low, and I ended up having more or less an identical breakfast every day. I would have preferred some cooked breakfast options, even if I had to pay extra for those.
Location is great, room is excellent, for the money anyway.

United KingdomThe room was small and fitted, quite ingeniously, into the attic of the building. As it's a historic building I can fully understand why it's not possible to make certain alterations, but the steep, narrow stairs would make it difficult for anyone with mobility issues (which fortunately my wife and I don't have, but nevertheless is a point to be aware of). It was a hot weekend and you can't open the window beyond a tiny crack, so there is a lack of fresh air - in the height of summer I imagine it becomes uncomfortably hot, despite the fan provided. There is a fair amount of noise from the street after closing time. Canterbury's pubs seem to attract a rather rowdy, hard-drinking clientele from miles around, and the presence in the city of numerous screechy hen groups didn't help. None of these things are really within the hotel's control, but the slow draining from the shower and the presence of a bath that couldn't be used (because there was no plug for it) probably could be remedied.
Location was excellent - couldn't be better. If I stay again I may try to time it for an event at the theatre next door. Continental breakfast had plenty of choice, and though I missed having a cooked breakfast, which is the one thing I really love on the rare occasions I stay away from home, I understand why it isn't possible as there appeared to only one, very hard-working, lady who was doing everything. But the freshly made toast was appreciated. The room had everything we needed, including tea & coffee-making facilities - essential after walking around in a city whose tea shops are insanely expensive. Staff were very friendly and helpful - full marks to them all.

United KingdomWe stayed in the same room as last time, but this time it was way more noisy, although it was a weekday. I believe there were some works going on outside. From the people at breakfast in the morning I assume not all the rooms were full, so it would have been nice to have that extra attention to detail and possibly be assigned a different room. We communicated weeks in advance that we were both vegan, and were assured there were vegan options at the continental breakfast. These were toast with margarine and jam - none of the pastries were vegan. I expected a little more considering the average vegan options available at hotels nowadays.
We stayed here before, and if we come back to Canterbury we will stay again. The location is great, and the rooms are spacious and clean. They receently renovated the pub and bar space on the ground floor so it looks extra nice! Staff is friendly and the overall vibe is great.
