Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing to dislike, although it must be said that the reception staff need to be more welcoming and as friendly and pleasant as are the restaurant and bar staff. We are elderly and after struggling up to the first floor with heavy luggage, we found out that there was a lift! The reception staff should have pointed this out to us, as it is not visible from the reception area. In addition, on checking out, a cheery “Thank you for staying at The Petwood. Have a safe journey.“ wouldn’t have gone amiss either. The ladies need training in customer relations in my opinion.
We loved the history of the hotel Very interested in WW2 history, so where better than to stay at The Petwood and walk in the footsteps of the heroic Dambusters. Beautiful, well tended grounds. Woodland setting- pleasant, flat walk into village centre Excellent breakfast with super choice. Efficient and pleasant waitresses. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night. Good menu. Waitress Karen was very friendly and helpful. Woodhall Spa is a charming village with a lovely high street; interesting shops, hotels, bars and cafés. Home of the Dambusters Squadron, so steeped in history. Woodland setting. A visit to the unique Kinema in the Woods is an absolute must. Like stepping back in time.

United KingdomSecond days breakfast was buffet style due to volume of people, disappointed. Lack of staff is not a reason to lower your standards. Don't devalue your customer experience to fit your budget.
Location and its history. Staff were friendly and attentive.

United KingdomNo explanation for buffet breakfast on the 17/4 and did not like the brusque manor of head waiter who did not prioritise his clients - even pulling a table across passage way in and out of dining room so people could not pass through easily especially with poor mobility. The mood of the staff in the dining room was severely depleted on that morning.
The breakfast was lovely except when it changed to a buffet style and many things were off the menu. Could have gone to a budget hotel if I wanted a buffet breakfast.

United KingdomThe wallpaper in the room was coming off of the wall, there is no full length mirror and the heating downstairs wasn't powerful enough making it cold. Table in the bar was sticky where it hadn't been cleaned properly
Lovely location Woodall Spa is a well kept village and the grounds of the hotel are lovely. Breakfast was OK bit dry.

United KingdomThe fact that we had to leave to come home.
The breakfast was very good, a large choice for both english and continental. Both meals we enjoyed in the bar were value for money and the restaurant meal was exceptional. We will definitely stay here again. My sister and her partner have booked to stay in September on our recommendations.

AustraliaThe bar closes too early. It’s a shame there was no service in the Squadron Bar. There is a bit of a musty smell throughout the corridors and rooms but I can understand this being an old property. The experience could be improved if the smell could be freshened up.
We are an RAF family. The history of the place won us over. It’s a beautiful building.

United Kingdomfor us we preferred to be waiter served rather than self service
we liked the room and the service, the breakfast was ok with all the basics in place, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, the tea and coffee and toast were served at your table, cold table had all your cereals and small jars of fruit, with bread and croissants and pana chocolates etc.

SwedenWi-Fi services throughout the hotel are not in line with expectations. Very slow data transfer which makes even the basics of internet browsing difficult, meaning you have to rely on switching to mobile data.
The surrounding area is beautiful, especially the gardens within the hotel grounds. Great location to the nearby town centre and also close to local elements such as the Viking Way. Very peaceful and also felt safe.

United KingdomDid have to move room due to noise from large chimney outside, staff rectified this immediately. Not enough signage in reception area to key areas, dining room, toilets, bedrooms so had to keep asking where things were but again staff were very helpful. Had Sunday lunch, wasn’t impressed with food or value for money but staff were very attentive.
Location was good for walking to the main village and Kinema in the woods, hotel had some great links to history, some lovely quirky features such as pianist during Sunday lunch. Staff were very professional and approachable, our initial room was located above the kitchen and had a noisy chimney outside, staff were understanding of the impact this could have on my sleep and moved/upgraded to us to a better room. Hotel grounds were lovely to walk around.

United KingdomThe bath plug stuck, and I couldn't let the water out of the bath. I attended a Bridgerton Ball, and the food wasn't as good as I was expecting. Dessert was inedible. I had a call the day I checked out saying that I had eaten breakfast and needed to pay, but I didn't have any as I was disappointed with the food beforehand.
Quaint Hotel in a lovely setting. Incredibly friendly staff. The garden was beautiful.
