Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomParking directly outside the cottage was a little tight - but there was plenty of space available only a few metres away.
Darren & Karen were simply perfect hosts. Before we arrived they provided additional details about their location. They are very friendly and have a great knowledge of the best places to visit in the area. They provided a large supply of local tourist pamphlets & maps to help. There was a large choice of both food and drink for breakfast - which was very tasty. Top top job Darren & Karen

United KingdomThere is absolutely nothing that we would change. The only thing is that they are so deservedly popular with their guests, that they are fully booked for months ahead, and it is not at all easy to make another booking this year.
We managed to get the same room we had last year, and it was a 'home from home' experience. Darren and Karen were, as ever, outstanding hosts and we can't wait to go back.

United KingdomJust a couple of nit picking things, 1, I used a towel only once and hung it up to dry in the bathroom. The towel was taken away without a replacement put in place and although I was left with a small and large towel, I was planning on washing my hair the next day and as it's long, just needed another towel to wrap my hair in. 2, I made myself a coffee in the room. The cup and spoon were taken away and although there was another clean cup there wasn't another teaspoon so I stirred my coffee with a pen. Just nitpicking things but a bit frustrating. Otherwise, everything from the location, room, comfy bed and large accessible shower was perfect and I will definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.
I have mobility issues and my balance isn't good. I mentioned this when booking the room and the owners very kindly took this into consideration and gave me a downstairs room with access to the outside within easy reach of my car. I really appreciated this. The accomodation is within easy reach of Oban and Kilmartin Glen. I used this as a stop off to break my journey up from Skye to home. The owners were so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. They were very knowledgeable on the local history of the area which I found very useful and helpful as I was wanting to explore Kilmartin Glen.

SingaporeWe had a little trouble locating the cottage as it was dark when we arrived. But to be fair, Darren and Karen had provided detailed navigation instructions and we struggled probably due to the stress of driving in the dark in an unfamiliar setting.
We initially considered staying in Oban but decided on The Old Cottage as we wanted a quieter location. This proved to be a great choice for we loved the tranquil setting, the lovely coastal views and how quaint the cottage was! Our king room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated with little thoughtful touches like chocolates and lovely crockery. The bathroom was one of the largest we had ever seen at a B&B, with two sinks and a bath tub. The cosy guest lounge had a HUGE selection of books for guests to browse and the dining room boasted lovely views of the garden. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and very filling with a wide selection of items - fresh fruit, toast, porridge (which tasted wonderful with generous lashings of treacle) and a hearty cooked Scottish breakfast. Finally, a big thanks too to our hosts Darren and Karen, who were very kind and knowledgeable, and offered useful tips and suggestions on places to visit. It was also nice of them to introduce us to the other guests at breakfast.

Karen and Denis are such lovely hosts - friendly and so knowledgeable. My room was cosy and warm and the bed so comfy. There is a lovely guest lounge with an amazing choice of local maps and books. Breakfast was great, the best on my holiday and the view from the dining room is gorgeous. I had a lovely meal at the hotel next door - just down a little path.

We had a one night stay at the Old Cottage. From the minute we arrived the hosts, Darren & Karen, were welcoming and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was extremely comfortable with everything that we could ask for. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice for either a cooked or continental with good quality ingredients. I highly recommend the Old Cottage.

United KingdomMy stay was too short. The shared access road with the nearby Hotel is sadly falling into a similar poor state of pothole repair as are many public roads in Scotland.
A broad range of choice for breakfast could be pre selected and was presented promptly and without question about idiosyncratic preferences. The shore is nearhand. The view of birds and animals feeding outside the breakfast room patio doors was enthralling. The bed was comfortable and the linen immaculate.
