Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomStairs would be a little steep for some people with mobility problems.
Seaview from comfortable room was amazing. Lashings of hot water and a comfortable bed. The cooked breakfast was lovely, cooked well amd piping hot. Free parking on property was a bonus . The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the bar had a reasonably priced verried menu.

Germany- Poor breakfast situation - I waited 45 mins for egg on toast and the toast wasn't even buttered! - Very noisy floorboards, a guest above us didn't stop walking around for 3 hours and we heard every step. - The spare beds are very uncomfortable.
You can't fault the location of The Old Colonial - it is literally a stone's throw from the beautiful sandy beach and there is a great view of the sea from the room we had. Although the building and the rooms are a little old fashioned and in need of refurbishment, we were comfortable enough - however the spare bed was a little too hard as it had no springs, it was essentially just a mattress on wood. The manager Lee was very friendly and welcoming however during check in I was confused as to why he didn't immediately put us down for breakfast every morning as we requested and seemed to almost be subtly dissuading us from having breakfast there at all. On the first morning, we arrived at 8am in the dining area and soon realised why... the hotel is understaffed and really not equipped to offer breakfast and does so halfheartedly. The poor woman who served us seemed a little put out that we had arrived so early as nothing was ready. She also said something to the effect of "the chef isn't very good in the morning". We got there eventually but decided to take Lee's advice and get breakfast elsewhere for the remainder of our stay! We also tried to get dinner there on our last evening but we left to go elsewhere after waiting ten minutes to be served. We would definitely stay again for the convenience of the location as the room itself was perfectly fine.

United KingdomThe only problem we experienced which was not the accommodations fault at all but the guests in the next room made such a nose banging etc it woke us all up and scared my little girl then we had to listen to the headboard banging against the wall all night so we had little sleep , had nobody to speak to about it in the morning as the desk was unmanned I would like to get some form of refund due to no sleep
The rooms were lovely and big really clean would defo recommend Ive to western every year for the past 10years with my husband and children my partner pasted last year but we still come because the memory’s we normally stay the premier inn But I would rate the rooms better here for the money

United KingdomI'm only putting this here, as the survey is asking for negative comments as well as positive. The view of the hotel from the outside lets it down a little bit, but that is just a very minor point, and nothing that a lick of paint couldn't fix. Didn't spoil our break in any way.
The hotel has a cracking pub and beer garden, with spectacular sea views. The menu looks good, but we ate when we were out and about on the town, so unfortunately didn't sample the food. Good size room, with everything in it that you would expect or hope for. Friendly and informative staff. We enjoyed our stay and would go back and recommend the hotel to anybody.

United KingdomNo negative comments
The location is excellent with complimentary parking. Our family room was really spacious with a view of the promenade. The bed was really comfy, and a good supply of fresh towels in the bathroom. There was a nice choice for breakfast, and was freshly cooked. The hotel staff were really welcoming and we will stay at the Old Colonial when visiting Weston again.

United KingdomWe had a lovely couple of nights in the Old Colonial in Western-Super-Mare, there was a couple of things that needed attention and the main thing was it really needed a total upgrade, For a Marston Hotel it was very basic, it was only at best a two Star but was trying to be better, the Staff were brilliant, the bedroom was very big with a comfortable bed, BUT the reception & bar area was very poor NOT VERY NICE.

United KingdomNo proper plugs at the sides of the bed to charge phone, bedside lamps plugs were like shaver plugs and the lamps were huge and bright - felt unnecessary with the wall lights aswell. TV felt very unsturdy on it's wall attachment. Red mould on the shower head. Cleaner really noisy at 7.30 in the morning, sounded like they were moving furniture. The door between reception and the bar and the side entrance between bar and car park were unlocked/locked at random inconsistent times. Responses to emails were more than 24hrs later and some after I had already checked out. Outside of building could do with a bit of love.
Staff lovely and helpful. Room was huge. Bed large and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and shower was lovely. Fan provided was very quiet. Our windows overlooked the roof and could hear the generator overnight coming on and off but it wasn't noisy.
