Needs a bit of an uplift , as some of the buildings were in need of some TLC. Which is a real shame as the. Hotel & Staff are very nice !

Great location For a walk away to Matlock Bath. Lovely outdoor Pool , restaurant good food but limited choices . Breakfast good but again limited choices . But overall everything we needed so no complaints there !

We hadn't been told there was a wedding - we weren't the only ones so we couldn't eat in the lounge bar or the restaurant so we had to very quickly book a restaurant in Matlock...... also no cups or milk in the room so had to fetch some. Bit disappointed but I'd stay again. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

I've been many times in the past and it is still a lovely hotel.

Another faded jaded English resort gem - go for the pool and you will be pleased, dont and you wont

Its a typical English tired faded old resort hotel, a bit creaky at the seams which is fine but at the price we were paying it was a bit below 'good' and the cleanliness in the bathroom was a bit short of attention to detail. Reception desk staff were friendly enough but overall it wasnt a 'smart' experience.

Its a nice old hotel in easy (10-15 mins) walk of Matlock Bath and fortunately out of the madness of 'down town' . The open air geo thermally heated (but chilly) pool behind is free to guests and that is a real bonus if you like to swim (vs splash). We upgraded and got a nice room overlooking the gardens and the pool, the first room we saw was poky with no view other than internal courtyard / roof top. Breakfast was OK not exceptional but we didn't eat in the restaurant.

Thought we would have a room in the main building, but instead we was in an annexe out the back, the view was OK over looking the pool, but we felt disconnected from the main hotel.

Pillows were terrible! Thin, flat and stained. I requested two extra ones which were just as bad and even one didn’t have a pillowcase because they couldn’t find one. We like the garden rooms overlooking the pool and while I noticed the rooms have been re-vamped since our last visit, the bathrooms are very dated but everything was clean. Ran out of plates at breakfast, coffee too but it was too hectic for one person to manage. I suggest a sign telling guests not to put croissants through the toaster as there was a lot of discarded burnt ones. The setting needs to be adequate for your bread/crumpets etc to be cooked to a nice colour first time through as going a second time burnt them too creating a lot of smoke. Would have liked some cooked tomatoes at breakfast but I did ask for vegetarian sausages which I had with mushrooms and baked beans (I don’t eat eggs).

The outdoor pool is really what I go there for (my 3rd visit) but I was told it didn’t open until 10am (BH Monday) and as I had to leave 0930 I missed a morning swim but there were people in from 0800 many of which we also guests staying at the hotel. The staff are hard working, professional and friendly. Noah worked his socks off at breakfast this morning. The receptionist had to help him eventually as he was the only ‘waiting’ staff which was crazy as the hotel was full (as explained by the receptionist). Noah also did a brilliant job in the bar on Saturday night along with the manager. The dinner was delicious and well presented. The team on our visit were great, a credit to the hotel so look after them!

This is not a 4 star hotel. For a start the information clearly mentions a towel radiator in each room. Ours had one with the plug cut off. The tiles next to the toilet were all blown and could fall off at any time. The staff are very friendly but clueless. The chap who served us at dinner was lovely but clearly needed training and had been basically left to fend for himself. It took 45 minutes before we were asked if we'd like coffee after our dinner - apparently clearing the dinning room was more important. . The hotel has recently changed hands and apparently they are aware that there are issues- well they have a long way to go.

The hotel is in a fabulous location.

The 1960's extension part needed good refurbishment-new double glazed windows, new corridor flooring and new external paint job. Realise this is an old long established hotel which is trying to improve.

Room was pleasant but could have had a few pictures. The rear door to the pool area had no door lock so was 'OPEN'

No lift! When going up flights of steps with suit bag, suitcase, bag and handbag then trying to open a fire door at the top step and having to back step down three steps with bags so I could open the door and struggle to get through it was dangerous.

Breakfast was adequate. It was very difficult, taking the lids off the hot plate to get your food with a plate in your hand and nowhere to put anything!

Our room was located in an annex, meaning it was quite some distance from the main areas of the hotel. The décor was quite dated and would benefit from refurbishment. The only negative though from an otherwise enjoyable stay.

We travelled to this hotel specifically for the outdoor spring fed swimming pool, which certainly didn't disappoint. The pool lifeguards were really helpful and informative and we were even able to use the pool facilities prior to check-in. It was also a nice surprise to have a cooked breakfast, as the booking information stated that the hotel only provided continental breakfasts.
