    The decor is rather dated

This is a fascinating old inn, dating back to 1420. There’s a great bar with a huge inglenook fireplace. The building is a veritable warren of rooms landings. Very quirky.

As a result of its age it was creaky. We were above the restaurant and could hear people downstairs.

Beautiful building, all the staff are very proud of their work, all well dressed and looking very smart, very polite and friendly. Very old building with many original features.

The beautiful Mermaid Inn is in one of the prettiest streets in England. The rooms and beds were comfortable whilst retaining the history of the Inn and the Tudor Architecture. Friendly, helpful staff, happy to chat about the history of the Inn and surroundings. The Mermaid Inn is in the perfect location for exploring Rye, with St Mary's Church, the High Street and The Mint all close by. The Inn has the best Fireplace Bar with so much history, and there is so much to discover all over the inn. The narrow, steep stairs might be difficult for anyone with walking difficulties, but it is a joy to feel a part of the history of the place. And the breakfasts were exceptional, enjoyed in a gorgeous dining room. What a fabulous stay.

    Everything was perfect, no complaints.

A member of staff who organised the parking when we got there, a porter to take our bags up to our room, was really appreciated, as several flights of steep stairs, A lovely breakfast , and dinner both days. All made for a perfect stay. in a lovely Inn with lots of history in the centre of Rye.

The pigeons outside our window were noisy as was the water feature I would have preferred a shower as opposed to bath ! We were unable to park on site due to a sink hole but train station parking is very reasonable

Unfortunately the waterboard had dug up the car park leaving them with few parking spaces but they did their best to get round this as best they could.

Genuine staff that were really interested in their customers and were proud of where they worked a d were very knowledgeable about the history etc.

We didn't see any ghosts! However the whole ambiance of this fine establishment pretty well made up for that.

This very old wonderful Inn is at the heart of Rye. All of the staff, reception, porters, waiting/bar staff, cleaners were so polite and professional. Very easy to get lost in the nest of corridors and stairways however the helpful staff are never far away to point you in the right direction. The Mermaid is ideally placed for exploring lovely Rye.

If more vegetarian options were available on dinner menu would have eaten there. Not a major issue as plenty of places to eat in rye.

Staff were very friendly and helpful.Room was lovely and although at the front of the Inn the curtains blocked out all outside light.Very peaceful as well.Bed very comfortable.
