It was on top of the highest point so for those not keen to walk or do stairs it would be difficult to walk to town.

Though the place is a little run down, it was clean and the bed was comfortable.

The walls were very thin and noise from adjoining rooms was very annoying especially at night when trying to get to sleep. Also we had to ask if we needed toilet rolls, clean towels etc.this wasn't done regular. We got woken by the fire alarm going off at 4.30am on Saturday morning ,we got up to assemble outside at the assembly point and waited outside -whilst doing so other guests waited outside too! We waited but no manager or owner of the hotel appeared to check who was there but no-one appeared! My wife and I was appalled by this. Someone rang emergency services and a fire engine came. Incidentally there was no fire whilst we were outside anyway- fire brigade couldn't turn alarm off ,we had to wait for the key holder to arrive! We waited nearly 1 hour. Eventually someone arrived who worked there to turn the alarm off- apparently he wasn't the manager but we had seen him on occasions during our stay! Apparently there had been no-one on reception all week at night anyway and we didn't even know, this is absolutely shocking! Apart from this happening we had a lovely stay.

Location was very good for shops and amenities and a nice retreat, the bed was very comfortable and warm.

Bad location for less mobile people. Really was a trek up the stairs from the harbour to the hotel with children. Most would need a taxi. Also lock on room door was suspect

Great value for money, room was basic but clean and presentable

The walk back to the hotel from town was very steep. It would have been nice to have had our bins emptied and towel’s/ linen changed at least once during our 4 nights stay. After checking in we didn’t see any staff for the rest of our stay. We had to ask for a toilet roll as no one had been in our room to check anything throughout our stay. There was only enough tea and coffee provided for two cups each during the whole stay. It would have been nice to have the option of breakfast even if just continental.

The beds were very comfortable and the linen/towels were good quality. It was in a reasonably central position where we were able to walk into town within about 10 minutes. There was good parking and it was clean.

Cleanliness was poor. Our room was not cleaned during our visit, towels were not changed. The bathroom was small. Not enough space to put clothes/belongings. The room needed a table/cupboard.

The manager was very friendly but we didn't see enough of her to ask questions. The bedroom was a fair size.

A mirror on bedroom wall ... a lift to reach high floor levels...

The people who run this hotel are lovely polite and friendly also very helpful...the cleaners are very good at keeping the place tidy too...the room was lovely and clean on arrival (very top floor) no lift...Double bed ,lovely bedding, thick hand towel with thick bath sheet towel , shower gel shampoo hand soap, toilet paper all provided...Tea coffee sugar milk kettle mugs and spoons...Tv with remote...built in wardrobe (take own hangers) though because wasn't any provided... a chair and bedside table...Could do with a mirror on the bedroom wall so you can use to see when drying hair there was a mirror in the bathroom but plug socket to far away...or take a small extension lead...There's a kitchen which you can use it does have fridge freezers kettle toaster microwave but no cutlery plates etc and no sink/taps to wash any pots or fill the kettle ,there's a table chairs and comfy seating area in the kitchen...down stairs ladies/gents toilet and lounge area...outside one table/bench seating area with small car park...the hotel is situated at the very top of the hill...takes roughly 20/30 mins stroll into Torquay a killer to walk back up those hills or taxis cost us £7/£8 ... I would use this hotel again but would request a ground floor or 1st floor room...Many thanks for a lovely stay...

On a hill. So need to be aware a climb from town , but not too far, 10 to 15 minutes.

Clean. Good value for amount paid. Need not have worried re other negative reviews. Walls were a bit thin, but got what paid for. Water hot shower a bit small, but ok. No problems with check in. Staff friendly.Would stay again.

Sadly, as it is a budget hotel, some of my fellow guests, were... Lacking in consideration. The walls are thin, the fire doors rather loud when allowed to close on there own; ear plugs higly recommended!

I stayed at the Maycliffe Hotel for 2 weeks, whilst having my bathroom's replaced. I booked it mainly due to price, and for a budget hotel, my stay was good. The location is perfect, and there is plenty of parking on site and near by. The room was basic, but very clean, the bedding and towels excellent, there was even tea & coffee. The staff were friendly, and couldn't have been more helpful.
