It's hard to point out - the hotel is beautiful, location is great, the staff is nice, room was big (a bit annoying that we'd not open the bathroom's window and there was no extractor fan, but nothing that disrupted our stay). It's just that it felt like the place lacks a "soul". It's a relatively small hotel, with just 15 rooms but the general atmosphere is that of a big hotel chain.

The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. It was nice to be so close to Helensburgh as there are a variety of restaurants there (plus the walk along the loch is beautiful).

Fantastic location next to the water. Lovely old country house with all the original features. Great atmosphere throughout. We were up graded which was nice. The bedroom was large, comfortable and well decorated with a large comfy bed. Dinner in the evening was exceptional and very high class dining at a reasonable cost. breakfast was equally good. All the staff we encountered were so friendly and accomodating. We will return in the future.

Remote location with not much to do in the area. The right place to relax and take it easy! Food was on the expensive side (breakfast was included in the package we booked, but purchased separately it was priced high. Dinner was testy but expensive

Like stepping back in time, almost felt like being royalty :) The little castle is beautiful from the outside as well as inside. Beautiful set up of rooms, entry hall, seating room - where we spent our evenings, and dinning room. It is also well maintained (feels authentic but clean and comfortable) Our room was specious and very beautiful Food was testy (dinner and breakfast) Staff was lovely :)

Beautiful building, lovely room. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, (the sort of food you can expect to pay twice as much for in a fancy restaurant!) picturesque location, though a little out of the way, but well worth it. Would definitely return!

The website states there is a bar. In reality this is a sitting room, very comfy and historic, but very quiet and no atmosphere. Some guests were sleeping on sofas. And in the dog friendly hotel one guest jumped up in terror when we bought our dogs into the lounge, so we had to put them in the room. Service was not very forthcoming in the lounge, one always had to go to reception to request a drink.

Breakfast was great, delicious smoked salmon! Waiting staff were friendly and professional. Loved the location and the view over Loch Long could be stared at for many an hour!
