Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing. It was a perfect stay
Karen and Robert are fantastic hosts. We really enjoyed chatting with them and staying in their gorgeous BNB. It is well located in the centre of pretty Knaresborough and very close to the train station to access York or other areas in the lovely Yorkshire county. Knaresborough is a very pretty town with lots of interesting walks, cafes, restaurants, gourmet bakeries and pie shops, gift and artisan shops and historic points of interest including the magnificent bridge. The room was clean, comfortable, very quiet and overlooking a beautiful cottage garden courtyard. All the necessary amenities were provided and we loved the amazing full personalised English hot breakfasts. I enjoyed trying some items Australians are unfamiliar with- smoked haddock and black pudding. My husband loved his omelette, Yorkshire sausages, bacon, and all the trimmings. After a day out sightseeing we looked forward to coming back to our relaxing room for a cup of Yorkshire tea and the treats Karen left out for us. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

United KingdomI can't think of a negative comment, we were expecting a small double to be tiny but the room was far from it, spacious in fact.
The whole experience was great, the little touches like milk and water in the fridge and the breakfast was delicious, we'll definitely be staying there again.

United KingdomWelcoming, friendly host, they even let us check in early. There was a shared fridge with water provided which was ideal, given the humid weather. Robert brought us a fan for our room, as it was a hot day. Lovely hot breakfast, pre ordered the night before for a set time, plenty of choice, and quality produce. You could leave luggage, in store,on your departure day. Room decor lovely, exceptionally clean, with everything you require, attractive outside gardens area to enjoy too. Close to railway station, only a few minutes walk. Hosts couldn't do enough for us.Perfect in every way!

United StatesIt was impeccably clean and the breakfast was amazing. The best and most special part, though, was that the owners Robert and Karen were so nice and really seemed to enjoy themselves! They were there every morning making the breakfast (including eggs from their son’s hens) and asking what we had on for the day. They were the Best! We had such nice stay.

United KingdomThere isn't anything to criticise. Some may find lack of parking an issue but the car park we used was only a short walk away and cost only £1.90 for 24 hours. The patron gave us an invaluable tip and suggested we buy multiple tickets on the same day if staying for more than one day as this shows intent.
Superb location. Town at one end of the street and railway station and two great pubs at the other. Very welcoming patrons. Lovely clean room. Guests were provided with a variety of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, Robinson juice, biscuits, chocolates, fresh milk. The breakfasts provided by Karen were first rate and her husband was very attentive. I can highly recommend the smoked fish with a poached egg.

United KingdomThe communication with the hosts who were so welcoming and helpful was clear prior and throughout our stay. The location was superb so we were easily able to get everywhere we needed to. And you can see Knaesborough Castle from the windows of the Kirkgate house!! Every bit of attentions has been put in to the lay out of the rooms, especially the selection of teas and biscuits. The room was very clean and so beautifully designed, a truly relaxing atmosphere. We had a very comfortable sleep and a super breakfast the next morning. Meeting local pooch was a true pleasure too, she gave us plenty of tail wags before we had to leave, which we were so gutted to having to do! We would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area or near by and when we will be revisiting we will only be staying at Kirkgate house.

United KingdomThere wasn't much we didn't like and feel it would be nit picking to say so. .
Kirkgate house was in a good location. Robin was a good host, but we never saw Karen. It's in an excellent location and ideal for everywhere in Knaresborough. Good choice for breakfast and very good drinks and snack tray in bedroom. All in all we had a good break.

United KingdomThis place is a gem, friendly people, super clean, quiet & comfy - & all minutes from Knaresborough railway station on the York to Harrogate line. Excellent value, delicious home cooked breakfasts (& catered for g/f & d/f..) - & a gorgeous sunny courtyard garden full of flowers & birds: brilliant! Beautiful spacious rooms at back overlooking garden, plus others onto street (but it's not busy). Knaresborough is a fascinating place full of history & quirkiness, just 20 minutes on train to York. LOTS of pubs, cafes, restaurants & independent shops, a delight!

United KingdomThere was nothing not to like. It is worth noting, however, that there is no parking facility. We were advised of this before booking. As promised, we were given the various options for parking in nearby car parks. This worked well for us, and the charges were modest.
We received a warm welcome when we arrived, and taken to our room. It was beautifully appointed, stylish and accommodating. It was almost like being in a private house. There was a generous supply of tea/coffee/biscuits. The ensuite facilities were excellent. The beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent also, with good quality food well prepared.
