Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLove the style of the property. Big airy studio room. Cool in the hot weather. Comfortable beds and sofa. Large well equipped bathroom, with two types of shower fitments as well as bath. Easy street parking. Close to Shanklin high street, and beach. Value for money.

United KingdomThe staff is very nosy and rude. The bathroom door does not close from the outside. The curtain rod in the living room falls on your head when you draw the curtains. There are woodslices everywhere. The facility is not child-friendly.The owner of the house entered the house without my permission when I was not at home.

United KingdomThe room has two beds, a large king size and smaller double. If you want to share the king size, one of you will have to be able to clamber in as it is against the wall. No cooking facilities (other than kettle & coffee maker) but a sink and hob are in the process of being fitted in the room. A tea towel would be useful. Not always easy to find a parking spot close by but we managed reasonably well.
Clarence House is on a quiet road a short walk away from the cliff path and the station in Shanklin. It is not really a bed and breakfast establishment or entirely self-catering. Our Beatrice Junior Suite had a fridge and we were provided with tea, coffee, milk, fruit juice, biscuits and generous quantities of fruit. Bowls were provided so we could eat cereal in the room which had a table and chairs. It also had a comfy seating area. There was a modern shower room with nice toiletries. Our hostess was unable to meet us due to personal circumstances but had arranged for someone to be available and maintained good communication with us throughout our stay. An easy stroll to eating places (but book in advance.)

United KingdomWe didn’t like the bin full of the previous guests’ rubbish, or the dead flowers in dirty stale water. There is a dirty plate in the drawer below the fridge. The curtain track is problematic, the wall mounted wash basin is not stable. We had to use a hand towel as a mat outside the shower. 10.5 tog duvet was rather warm for midsummer, one duvet cover had a broken zip. Simple problems easily remedied!
Breakfast was fine, left in a bag outside our room each morning. We were glad to have a fridge, which was quiet, and fresh milk instead of those silly little UHT things. Plenty of tea and coffee. We slept very well, having a double bed each. Double aspect room was nice as it was good for ventilation.

KuwaitThe place was very well equipped; however, would have loved a washing machine as we stayed a week with 2 children. WiFi was also very weak. Double bed mattress needs a mattress topper as I could feel the springs. 2 single beds; however, we're very comfortable for the children.
Great location. Lovely quiet area. Cozy place. The patio and garden was a wonderful addition.

United KingdomBreakfast is simple, including a pastry, a bottle of orange juice, and a fruit for one person. Of course you can make coffee at your own room. I am fine with the simple breakfast. But if you expect a hot and rich one, I would advise you having breakfast somewhere else in stead of booking it with the room. We are running out of toilet rolls (2 rolls as a starter pack) on the 4th day of our staying. Unfortunately the extra rolls were not provided and we had to purchase some ourselves.
Great location, around 15-min walking distance to the Shanklin beach, approximately 20-min walking distance to the Shanklin high street, up to 45-min driving distance to any attractions in the IOW. Shanklin is a lovely and peaceful village with many good restaurants, which provide tasty Indian, Thai, Italian and British classical pub food. You can find Chinese take away and Dominos as well in high street. The Clarence House is a lovely and cosy victorian house. There are free off-street parking outside of the house and in the surrounding area. The Beatrice suite we stayed is bright and spacious. Guests are allowed to use the lovely piano room downstairs for dinning.

United KingdomJust a minor detail, the curtains were beautiful but didn't actually meet in the middle and the light shone through early in the morning but we soon got used to that.
Loved the place, even though we didn't meet Ros she messaged us to make sure all was good, the water heater pilot light had gone out and water not hot as soon as she knew it was fixed and her housekeeper came with a bottle of wine and a box of biscuits to say sorry for the inconvenience which i thought was a lovely gesture. The location was excellent for walking down to the sea front and it was situated on a quiet street with plenty of parking space.

United KingdomShower was perfect, it probably needs a small refresh soon but it did not detract from our overall hapiness at this property. I would come back to this studio next time I'm on the island.
Immeculate maintained property. The room itself was tastefully decorated and super clean. The kitchnette with dishwasher made such a difference as we made some breakfast in the studio. The owners invested in quality beds so you're guaranteed a good night sleep. We came by ferry and train and you really don't need a car on the island. The property iself is 10 min from Shanklin rail station. It's a convienent place to rover the island by public transport (The Coastal Breezer that takes you to the Needles and back stops 5 minutes from the property). The owners checked in with us multiple times during out stay. Unusual but very much appreciated. There are also some small touches such as milk in the fridge, coffee pods for the Nespresso and a communal table with leaflets and tips for things to do. The owners know how to make you feel welcome.

United KingdomNever actually met the hosts - all communication via email or texts (could be a "plus" for some people, but I found it slightly impersonal)
Well presented & functional little cottage at the bottom of the garden. Very private & secure entrance, with parking on the road. Town area a short walk away (for breakfast). Nice pub also a short walk away. Neat & tidy & clean on arrival.

United KingdomAs mentioned in another review there's an automatic sensor light in the bathroom (which seemingly can't be disabled) that casts a bright light into the bedroom as soon as you cross the threshold which was quite disruptive to sleep if someone wanted to use the bathroom overnight and the wardrobe door had a very penetrating creak which could benefit from some WD40. At the time of booking there wasn't great clarity about what form the breakfast would take and this now seems to have been updated in the description and changed to an optional extra (which is for the good). With the benefit of hindsight I'd recommend against this option for stays or more than 1 or 2 nights as you'll quickly get fed-up with bananas, long-life orange juice and very sweet pastries which we felt obligated to eat to avoid food waste but wasn't a very nutritionally balanced or enjoyable breakfast. Also, whilst I understand not having in room cleaning during the stay as a Covid safety measure, if they're going to follow this approach then 1 small bath-towel per person for a 6 night stay isn't really adequate - at least provide a couple so that one towel gets a chance to dry and you're not having to use a slightly damp one throughout your stay. Finally, it was a bit odd to have zero contact with the owner or any member of staff over the course of 7 days we were there - keys obtained from a lock-box and a text message at the start and end of our stay were the extent of the interaction. None of these are major issues and we enjoyed our stay overall but it just feels as if we visited during a time where Clarence House is transitioning from a more traditional apartment house with a handful of B&B rooms to a full-blown hands-off 'Airbnb' style format, fell between these two stools, and it didn't quite hit the mark as a result.
Great location, convenient for public transport, restaurants and bars and the beach. The bedroom was clean, comfortable and well equipped, with clever use of space given the relatively small dimensions (be aware that Charlotte room really is a 'cosy' double so possibly not somewhere you'd want to spend a huge amount of time in during the day if you're visiting as a couple - fortunately the weather was great for our visit so we were out and about all day!). By contrast the bathroom is very spacious and has an excellent shower.

United KingdomNot a case of didn't like but observations to improve the room. The wardrobe doors squeaked which sounds OTT but the house was so quiet that every time we opened the doors next door could probably hear it. The bathroom door did not shut properly (therefore ajar), from the outside and so if you went past it the sensor light came on which when you went to the loo at night it was like a search light shinning out towards the bedroom. Obviously this did not spoil our stay but oil, fixing the bathroom door to shut and the sensor light be reduced in brightness can improve the situation. I hope you appreciate these findings.
Due to Covid situation we had our breakfast delivered outside our door (Artisan breakfast). Therefore able to get up at a leisurely pace.

United KingdomVery comfy apartment with plenty of room. Owner Rosamund was very helpful. Fresh milk & yummy biscuits on arrival were a bonus. Location was good for walking to the Old Village - about 25 mins. Beautiful island to explore & we will return at some point. We would definitely book this apartment (on of several at this property) again.
