Damp walls, leak in the bathroom by the radiator, room to the door didn't open fully, bitten during my time there, suspected bed bugs.

Cheap room Room wasn't cleaned during my time there, fine but felt like it hadn't been cleaned between visits

Dated. Grotty. Friendly receptionist. Great location for R1 Big Weekend. Would not pay more than £40

The hotel is extremely dated and the room was dirty (laminate flooring broken/peeling, unhoovered/unswept, grotty windows, handles missing off furniture, popcorn/food left in bedisde cabinet from previous occupiers). We chose to skip the morning shower in the morning even with a 2-hour drive back to South Wales. I've stayed in some places and been a student for 3 years, so my standards aren't high at all, but this was still a shock to the system even after reading the Google Reviews haha. I'm not fussy when it comes to booking a room to crash for the night but this place would make me think twice. If I was to go back to Coventry and the next best priced available room was like £30 more, then i'd definitely stay elsewhere. However, if the next best priced room was like £100 more then, perhaps not. But then again, it entirely depends on what you require the room for (long stay or night rest)! Overall, we/I probably wouldn't stay here again unless money was tight and the way things are going with the cost of living, this may be the only option!

The bed was reasonably comfy and the bedding was clean. Great location in relation to the Radio 1 festival in War Memorial Park. We (2 of us) paid £40 total for the room for the night, so it was somewhere literally to drop our bags and rest our head. It's a great price for what we needed so can't complain on that front but please be prepared! The receptionist was friendly and helpful and said other guests had paid ~£80 approx, which I would have not been happy about if that was me!

Not clean. the room had clearly not had a good clean in quite some time. The bed sheets weren’t clean and there was mold all over the bedroom and bathroom ceilings. There was also something in the roof making noise all night, not sure wether it was nice or pigeons. Was really cheap but not sure it was worth the state the room was in.

Ah, where to begin...filthy torn furniture, sets of drawers with no drawers, ripped carpet, bits of fluff everywhere, moss on windows, weird sticky black marks on a table, no milk for tea, no hangers for clothes - I ended up draping mine over the TV, after giving it a quick dust. But I was ready for this - and more. The wonderful guy on reception did his best to give me a quiet room and it was quiet in the afternoon, but I was disturbed in the night by repeated knocking on the room next door and people raking around the corridors, also by the sound of the man next door's mobile phone. I did half wonder if he might have been running a little shop of some kind. I also encountered a man staggering down the stairs off his head on something, while outside there were a couple of guys stationed by the gate with bulging bum bags, who I suspect may not have been car park attendants.

It was with great trepidation that I approached my stay at the Hylands on account of all the awful reviews on here and Tripadvisor, not least because I was a woman travelling alone. It was the only hotel left in Coventry that had not been booked out by festival goers and in fact it met my expectations exactly, albeit they were very low! Special mention goes to the fantastic staff notably Naseem(?) and Jad, who went above and beyond to be helpful and to watch out for me. They really should be working in a superior establishment as their customer service ethic was second to none. I also found the bed comfortable and the sheets clean, which is a very important point, although the pillows were a little firm for my liking. The bathroom was a bit dysfunctional - namely that the shower switch wouldn't stay in position, meaning I got an intermittent dribble of hot water - but it was better than I expected, and the water was very hot. If I had brought my own plug I could even have had a luxurious bath ;), so that is something to think of another time.

The rugs are decades old and cannot be cleaned. The door to the room was almost impossible to open; it would take the hotel personnel several minutes to open it; I could open it sometimes. Some of the others at the hotel were drunks, drug addicts, barely off the streets, and so on.

Bed was quite comfortable. The shower was decent. The walls and ceilings were fresh in appearance in the rooms.

It was tired and uninviting I waited for some time to be served at the bar then gave up. It would have been nice to see what the attached restaurant had to offer. There was nothing in the room or the lobby and no effort was made to promote the food. I ate a Macdonalds. I was generally very disappointed.
