Pillows were a little soft for my liking.

Lovely property, I upgraded to one of the bigger rooms, I did find the smaller double quote small and to be honest. a little dated. The larger room has a free standing bath which was beautiful and the room was extremely large. Great location, close to shops and parking. Would stay at again.

Location is fab, parking right behind hotel and then just a short walk to bars and restaurants. Room was a lovely size and absolutely beautiful. Also very clean. Staff were also lovely.

Houndgate is an excellent place to stay in the centre of Darlington.

unfortunately there was quite a bit noise late at night early morning from outside with late revellers leaving pubs/ nightclubs, this is no fault of houndgate, but this was our only negative comment, maybe secondary glazing could be option in the future.

Continental breakfast was a little sparse - could do with some pastries, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Radiator was off in the bedroom so freezing when we arrived - maybe turn on low when guests are expected.

Fantastic breakfasts - perfectly cooked and fresh to order with a great selection. Friendly service - everyone was warm, helpful and efficient. Comfortable room - beautifully decorated and cosy.

I have no complaints at all. my only tiny bug bear was that there wasn’t (as far as I could see) a short information guide in the room. I think as a suggestion, it may be worth creating a small card with important information on for each room that contains the WiFi code and important telephone numbers etc. just for reference for guests. other than that, superb hotel.

Truly, a beautiful Edwardian building that has kept it’s heritage. from the moment you walk in you are quickly transported away from the hustle and bustle to a beautiful staircase. the room we had was so cosy and clean. The staff were accommodating to our every need even supporting us with an early check in due to needing to attend a local wedding. The staff were all super polite and friendly even to the point where the cleaner saw us on our way to the wedding and told us how good we looked. Just a truly pleasant experience, one we wished we could’ve stayed an extra day. the breakfast is top notch too.

Best hotel in Darlington, the cleaner was so friendly and lovely and the lady you checked us in made sure we were accommodated to at breakfast as we are vegan. Everyone had a positive attitude and this really makes a difference. Beautiful rooms - clean and so central!

No fridge in the room. Lift was out of order. Room temperature took a while to warm up.

I stayed there with my elderly mother, unfortunately she couldn’t have a shower as it was over the bay and she is not mobile enough to get in and out.
