Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomImpossible to dislike anything about this cottage!
A lovely cottage, sympathetically converted and comfortably furnished by the hosts, Kate and Ali. Perfect for a relaxing stay and ideally located with views across rolling countryside, but so convenient for Barnstaple and N.Devon attractions, beaches, etc. Always a pleasure to be greeted by the inquisitive alpacas next to the driveway and the curious calves in the field nextdoor!

United KingdomPillows a bit hard but I'm hard to please where pillows go The driveway in, maybe a note on the details as very narrow and difficult to turn for large vehicles. Potholes
Cozy and well thought out cottage. Everything you could need and nice additional touches and a welcome hamper.

United KingdomThe shower occasionally lost pressure to a dribble of water. The door to the ground floor bedroom had quite a draughty gap that let the cold air in.
Lovely location, beautiful cosy little cottage, well equipped kitchen excellent enclosed garden space at the rear for the dog to run round in. Everything clean and well looked after. Definitely recommend a stay here.

United Kingdommum was not keen on the stairs but actually managed them ok. she was able to enter through the downstairs bedroom rather than the outside steps which helped a lot. the heating was a bit complicated with different remotes in each room but once i worked it out lovely and warm. no doors between rooms which is why i wondered about it for a romantic location!
beautiful quiet location. best nights sleep i have had in years. a part from the minor issues below which we sorted it was warm and comfortable. i would go again but maybe not with mum!

United KingdomOnly minor negative was the oven which took forever to cook any food (90 minutes to cook a pizza) and the inconsistent Wi-Fi (only a problem if you’re looking to spend an evening in and stream a movie). Worth also noting the access - smaller cars definitely won’t enjoy the potholes and larger MPV cars might struggle with the limited turning.
Lovely property in a great location to explore North Devon. Quiet and peaceful setting with a beautifully decorated and styled interior. The hosts were incredibly helpful and welcoming and were keen to ensure we were looked after without being overly intrusive. The property is very well equipped with top-range facilities, and we loved the focus on the ethical and organic products provided.

United KingdomEverything was great.
Great Lilly Cottage is perfect for a relaxing break, we had a wonderful four days there. The location is peaceful and quiet, surrounded by farmland, but close enough to Barnstaple to make it very convenient for supermarkets and getting to other places in the area. The cottage is spacious and very well equipped. Plenty of crockery and utensils, thick fluffy towels and a generous hamper. Comfortable seating, large kitchen area, comfy bedroom and great bathroom facilities. Ali was extremely welcoming and helpful. We frequently stay in cottages and would rate Great Lilly Cottage as one of the best, very highly recommended. Thank you Ali and Kate.

United KingdomThere is a bit of a pot hole road/path leading up to the cottage which our car didn't like very much but this is a farm in Devon so it comes with the territory!
We have just returned from a 5 night stay - our second stay at this cottage. It is a beautiful place in a lovely rural location yet a short drive into Barnstaple town. The cottage has everything you need and is decorated and furnished to a high standard. Check-in was very easy as the cottage was open on arrival with keys laid out on the table along with some lovely welcoming treats. The children loved all the farm animals too - especially when Spider-man and Makka Pakka came to visit! Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

United KingdomThe bedrooms weren't isolated so noise travelled at bedtime. A lot of steps so might hinder those with mobility issues. Not really walking distance to town.
Space for two cars. Agreeable host. Good price for this high specification cottage.

United KingdomNothing to dislike!
We loved Great Lily Cottage! It was in a beautiful, peaceful location, very clean and nicely decorated with a very cosy and homely feel. Everything we needed was there. There were crisps, cider, chocolate, fudge, milk and eggs for us when we arrived which was a nice surprise! Our boys loved the garden and exploring outside and also liked their cosy but spacious bedroom at the top! The cottage is in a great location for getting to the beaches and attractions but just far enough away to feel like you're away from it all when you come back from a day out and want to relax. The hosts made us feel very welcome and very kindly let us use their portable bbq for my boys to make a small fire in! Their cats were friendly too and visited us a few times to our delight as we missed our cat at home! We would definitely return and recommend Great Lily Cottage to friends.

United KingdomClutching at straws here, a well drained parking space to save getting muddy shoes would be welcomed. A larger full length mirror would be handy too. We couldn't fault the property at all!
A really quirky and funky layout with lots of nice period features and all the mod cons needed. Nice to be given a gift basket of cider, chocolate, fudge and crisps too. The location was great for exploring a lovely part of the North Devon coast :-)

United KingdomThe garden is quite steep, so at times I did struggle because of my age. It is lovely though.
Lovely position, quiet and away from built up areas, but close enough to town for shopping. Ideally situated for visiting Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Lynmouth. Plus many more. Lots of places within a short drive to eat. Private garden for dogs to play in. A lovely welcome gift of cider, fudge and crisps. Tea, coffee and sugar also available. (No milk though. Maybe forgot to leave some?) Constant hot water and all mod cons, including dishwasher. Ali met us on arrival and introduced himself and said to let them know if we needed anything. Good to know they were on hand if necessary. There is a lovely terrace to sit out on when it's hot, access is from the kitchen to both the garden and terrace.
