The open plan bedroom / toilet/ bathroom in some rooms may not be for everyone. We stayed in The Highland Room, although the toilet was separate, there was no door.

My husband and I, along with 2 of our friends, stayed at Gilestone Manor recently for 1 night on a Saturday. We had an excellent stay. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman called Jack who showed us to our rooms. We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves. The grounds and the house are absolutely beautiful. After a busy day of travelling and visiting other friends, we came back to the Manor House, fixed ourselves a drink at the honesty bar, and enjoyed using the cinema room. We had a lovely continental breakfast the following morning. The rooms were clean, tidy, and stocked with tea and coffee. My one and only drawback would be that not all the rooms have a private bathroom / toilet, so be careful on which room you book unless you are ok with using the toilet or showering in front of the person you are sharing a room with. All in all, it was a wonderful stay, and we will definitely be coming back!

Nothing really, an old Manor House with history behind any quibbles. If you want a shiny, anonymous corporate hotel, go elsewhere. Very enjoyable stay.

No cooked breakfast available, but what you got was perfectly adequate and fresh. Accommodation quirky and interesting, very comfortable bed, the grounds well worth a stroll (despite the weather!) a cornucopia of fauna wandering about during the day.

Breakfast was continental — I worry about food wastage because things kept being brought out in dribs and drabs, even after we had eaten our fill. The listing said ‘exceptional’ breakfast — I was hoping that meant menu based cooked breakfast options, so I was a bit disappointed in the basic cold meats, cheeses, rolls and yoghurt affair, and I am not a fan of hard boiled eggs. We were not offered any other option, at additional cost or included. Clarification on breakfast options at booking or on arrival would have been great; all the windfall apples laying unused all over the grounds. Again, concerns over food waste.

This is the most amazing venue — I can see why it is being advertised for weddings as it has a small 14th century church on site, which is still in use. We stayed in the Japan room which has probably been featured in Homes & Gardens or something similar — it was outstanding, although couples who aren’t happy showering or using the toilet (wet after shower use!!!) in front of each other might struggle. We met bobble headed chickens, a Valais blacknose and the flock of alpacas, as well as the lakeside black swans on a wander around the beautifully landscaped grounds. The Shinto garden will be fabulous once finished and provides a complimentary corner to the more formal walled gardens. Also loved the outdoor toilet facilities for ladies. Easy access to Limpert beach and several public footpaths.

The location was beautiful with a gorgeous sea view , south facing around the grounds. The grounds were stunning with lots of features. The Manor House was amazing, it felt as if we were about to meet the Queen at any point, such was the decor and feel. The owner Lorraine was so friendly and accommodating. We had booked a certain room, but she encouraged us to check all the rooms and take our pick, which we did. The rooms are just amazing and we had a very comfortable night's stay. Breakfast was continental and again, just perfect. Tea in bone China, cutlery and crockery very regal and importantly the food was delicious and ample. Would highly recommend a visit to Gileston Manor ..... 10 / 10 all around ! Thank you Lorraine 😊
