The attitude of the staff, the kettle and the architecture. The Indian restaurant in the building was superb as well

A few things (shower, sink, rattly windows) were a little rundown, but everything worked fine and I'd still absolutely recommend staying here!

Location was convenient and felt like a very safe area, easy to get to the city centre and really close to the beach. Staff welcome on arrival was very friendly. Room was comfortable and everything needed was provided.

Location was ideal, local amenities were close by 10 mins walk to beach 15 minute bus ride into Endinburgh centre. Hospitality 2nd to none. Tony was really approachable around nice guy.

No negatives really. It's a nice enough accommodation with no flaws if you just need somewhere practical to stay. Just not the kind of place where you'd like to hang out all day (but why would you in Edinburgh).

Lovely and helpful staff. The room was practical and very clean. The guest house is near the city centre, within walking distance if you like to walk (the route is fairly pleasant).

Broken window in room, cold overnight.

Warm welcome, comfortable small-ish single ensuite room with tea/coffee-making facility, regular 26 bus service from Waverley station passes the door, 10 minute walk to Portobello Beach & St. Andrews Chippy. Visited Fife Coast, Galashiels & North Berwick by train. Recommend North Berwick for beach walk & Bass Rock views.

The sink was broken and only replaced the next day.

The complimentary coffee,tea,milk and water are great. We we're allowed to leave our bags until we return for our journey back to London.

The shower isn't the best with limited power but apart from that the stay was great.

We had a good stay at Ellwyn House. The bedroom was nice, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room was cosy and warm.

The rooms feel more like a hotel- really modern and clean, all the amenities. The bed was also incredibly comfortable and a good size. The staff couldn’t be nicer and more helpful.

People warm and welcoming, lots of steps/stairs and uneven ground in car park difficult to navigate. Room was comfortable, if a little chilly due to bad weather in July! Single glazed windows might be very cold in winter months. Breakfast was excellent, ambience was good and the potential to be a thriving business is all there!

Only one thing, the hotel does not take cards!, I very rarely have more than £10 - £15 on me, breakfast was £24 for 2 mornings, please can the hotel make it clear that it is cash only when you book breakfast. I don't know why they don't have a card machine, they are only about £40 for the ones that you use with a smart phone.

Breakfast very good, value for money. Location very good, 15-20 minutes by bus to the city centre, frequent service from almost outside the hotel. They have their own car park plus plenty of car parking in the road outside.

Bed was a little on the soft side but that is down to personal preference. A hot weekend so some outside seating would have been nice but again its not essential.

The owners were a delightful couple where nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly and happy to assit with any queries. The room was clean and comfortable and would recommend the breakfast. A home from home experience.

Very conveniently located, cozy and nice service. Price-quality is excellent. Buses to the city center and less than 200mts away and short rides. Also close to the beach. The area is quiet and very open.

The sink has separated hot and cold water. Since cold water is too freezing and hot water is too hot, it is hard to use. Also, there’s no lift so a large luggage will be inconvenience.

Everything is good. Facilities are new and the room is comfy.
