Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

If you want a quiet place to stay then this is it ....Totally silent which is what we like. The hosts Karolyn and Chris are really friendly and make you very welcome As mentioned by previous guests the breakfasts are v good and the idea of an honesty bar is a boon .........Sit by the open fire ( which Chris tops up as the evening goes on) and crash out. Bed was very comfortable -Slept like a log.

Loved the peace and birdsong in the morning. The breakfast was exceptional, a wonderful continental selection topped off with a perfectly cooked breakfast. The quality of the ingredients was notable and perfectly presented. The bedroom was well equipped with a wee fridge and microwave. The bed and the chairs were very comfortable. It was nice to be able to take the dog along without it being an inconvenience. We didn't make use, but the lounge and honesty bar were a lovely addition, and when the fire is on, I imagine a perfect retreat in a winter evening.

United KingdomVery little. We look forward to going again.
The breakfast options were excellent and the full Scottish was first class. The room had a heating upgrade and the bed a new electric blanket, which on top of the other very welcome items like milk and water ready in the fridge, full tea and coffee making facilities etc; etc; and the forethought of the proprietors, as well as their friendliness all made the stay most acceptable.

United KingdomNumerous efforts to connect to the guest wifi failed. The steep granite steps up to the front door were a potential safety hazard for me, not helped by a sunken granite block on the surface right by the front door, making ascending or descending them an alarming experience. It would have been nice if the owner had suggested an alternative way to access the building. The tracj from the public highway to the house is badly rutted with potholes. It's passable with care, but will probably put off a lot of people if not attended to soon.
A very warm welcome awaited me after I ascended the steps to the front door of Disblair House. Previous reviews had given me to anticipate something a bit different and they weren't wrong. I felt welcomed home like a long lost family member. Karolyn explained the layout of the establishment, basic guest etiquette and domestic arrangements, and then showed me to my room, which she described as a suite. It was certainly large, and I'm sure a double bed could have been placed in the adjacent bathroom. The room was toasty warm, and remained so throughout my stay - principally due to the electric radiators provided. I loved the provision of a microwave in the room - that enabled me to nuke a meal each evening.

United KingdomWhat’s not to like? It’s remote so it’s quiet, heavy drapes to get a good sleep, lovely friendly hosts, full of character and oodles of food!
Quirky and full of charm with an abundance of history. Little thoughtful touches like treats for the dog, period journals and printed information about the house’s history in the room, games and a well stocked honesty bar make this place very welcoming. The decoration was all in keeping with the heritage of the house and the grounds were a trove to be explored by my little girl and included a trampoline, a beautifully tended veggie garden and nearby horses. And the breakfast… wow… we couldn’t have been better fed! Full breakfast, continental, waffles brought out for Freya… I was disappointed we didn’t have enough belly room to eat it all!

A wonderful stay, sadly only one night but we'll definitely be back! In fact, we spent most of our stay coming up with ideas why we would need to travel back to Aberdeenshire soon! From the welcome to the room, the amazing big and varied breakfast, the nice atmosphere, and the great owners - a true gem!
