Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room I was allocated was next to the busiest dual carriageway in Chelmsford. There was no mention of being allocated this annexe room away from the main hotel when I booked.
I had a problem with the room I had been allocated next to the dual carriageway. The receptionist, Andra, worked very hard with a busy hotel to find me an alternative room. She went above and beyond, her service was first class. She was very helpful and did her very best for me, which was much appreciated. Thank you Andra you did a great job for me, and I appreciate it very much

The location was great, I walked into town easily. The room was quite small. The bathroom was ok and the shower pressure very powerful! The breakfast was great.

United KingdomBooked a table in the restaurant but had to eat in the lounge bar which was packed. Not a very good experience. Breakfast ok, but should be included in room rate.

United KingdomThe hotel is an older traditional hotel and it lacked a bit of character but it was very clean. I ate in the main restaurant the food was great and nicely presented but as a solo traveller the restaurant lacked ambience and atmosphere. My bed whilst very large the mattress felt low quality and hard and would benefit from a comfort topper and some decent pillows.
The reception manager that checked me in and all of the other hotel staff that I met and engaged with were incredibly friendly and helpful. I was given an unexpected room upgrade from a standard double to an executive double which was much larger with was looked like a recently upgraded very large bathroom with shower and bath. The room was immaculately clean and had a quality coffee machine with a good selection of coffee, tea, biscuits and milk in the fridge. A hair dryer located next to a mirror is also a great addition to the room.

Room was very plain but adequate, bathroom a little tired but functional. Continental breakfast was excellent and good value. Very pleasant friendly staff. Good sized car park and only 3 minute walk to the station and a newsagent.

United KingdomI had booked a budget room but was moved into the main building. Room 7 was a good room, cleaner etc, but it was quite noisy as it was right by the steps to the residents corridor. But it didn't stop me having a good night's sleep.
Lovely staff - Andra on reception was really welcoming and waitress Christine in the dining room was an absolute delight. Super helpful, enthusiastic and very kind to myself and another solo traveller at dinner.

United KingdomDid not expect car parking charge of £9 per night - the walk from reception to our rather small room was horrendous with so many corridors and stairs (lift only goes to the first floor). Biggest problem was the smoke alarm being set off in the room by opening the bathroom door after a shower - we were not warned this was a common issue and it is hardly surprising as there was no extractor fan or window in the bathroom! Apparently we were not the only guests who had this problem on the same morning as us.
Breakfast good and dining room staff brilliant! Great location for the city centre - easy parking. Wedding reception dinner in the private room excellent all round with helpful and attentive staff. Quality of the food very good all round.

United KingdomRoom heating was variable and not controllable. Power sockets had no power from late evening. Fire alarm went off at 0700 - false. Clearly some issues with power to the newly refurbished units at the rear of the main hotel.

United KingdomBreakfast was a mess. Wrong order 2x, took over 20 mins to get food to the table following this, no bread to toast at the counter. Slow and poor service. No plates or bowls despite asking.
The room was nice with a comfortable bed. Light and airy with a balcony too. Bathroom was smaller but perfect for a few nights stay.

United KingdomBathroom fittings a little tired and slightly eccentric plumbing (hot water close to boiling!) Stairs through a rabbit warren of corridors to access second floor rooms.
The County is looking a little tired by modern standards, but it has maintained professional, old school quality service throughout the hotel, is spotlessly clean and well maintained. There is a lift to the first floor, but access to the second floor is by stairs only. Rooms are well equipped and there is fast, complimentary wi-fi access, good enough to stream TV. Large, comfortable bed though the shower (on the second floor room) needed a little coaxing seemingly low on pressure at times of demand. On site car park, although chargeable, very welcomed in such close proximity to the town centre. Excellent restaurant and great breakfast. Staff extremely welcoming, courteous and helpful.

United KingdomWe had Room 28 which was directly above the side entrance to the reception and above the restaurant. There were flood lights on the conservatory, patio area below from dark and all through the night. The curtains in room 28 were not sufficient to filter out that light and perhaps better black out blinds need installing. Otherwise our sleep was fine.
Our second visit in a month. Most things as good as the first stay. Just one criticism which I'll put below.

United KingdomSome of the elements of the cooked breakfast were cold (bacon, beans) on the first day, but the eggs royal on day 2 were very good.
The room was spacious and comfortable. THere was however, the constant sound of running water, possibly drainage from the room above.
