Good check in/check out times. Free tea and coffee all day, in the lounge. Excellent breakfast. 5 minute walk to the "walls". Very friendly staff.

After booking I read the other reviews which included small rooms, poor breakfast & steep stairs so we arrived with some trepidation. The pre arrival information was detailed & helpful. For an old building, our room which had a view of the Minster was surprisingly spacious in a lovely shade of green, with plenty of storage and a generous bathroom. The breakfast was very tasty & despite my partner’s brief grumble of “what no eggs?” was enough to keep us going for some time after. The stairs despite my not being too good on my feet were no problem. Overall, we had an extremely comfortable bed, quality linens, clean everything, substantial breakfast in bed & friendly staff (even at 7 in the morning!) so we had a delightful stay. Would recommend. Didn’t take advantage of the tuck box or the sweeties but the cake was lovely with a cup of tea in the early hours!

There was nothing not to like.

What an amazing find. The room we stayed in was beautifully and quirkily decorated with circus style wallpaper, accessories and bright but complimentary colours. The shower was large and powerful and there was also a bath. Always a bonus. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast could be taken in the lounge (equally quirky and very inviting) or in bed. There was a communal fridge stocked with milk and sweets (love hearts and the like) dotted all over. Parking was also available for an extra fee which was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. York centre was also just on the doorstep. I would highly recommend and hope to return.

The only drawback is no air conditioning but we were there during a bit of a heat wave (75F in May) which may be unusual.

We were looking for an older, charming, English lodging walking distance to city center and this was exactly it. Bed was very comfortable, nice shower, quiet and relaxing environment, charming building. We loved walking through the Abbey park each morning to city center. It was easy to order a custom breakfast each day as well. Great way to start our day!

We loved this little guesthouse close to the York town center. Easy 10ish minute walk from the train station. Staff super helpful and friendly, and we loved the breakfast basket delivered to our door in the morning. A quick walk to pubs, restaurants, shops, and the cathedral. We were able to leave our luggage for several hours to explore York before catching the train in the afternoon. Wish we could have stayed more than one night!

If we stayed again, we would call ahead and request a room on a lower floor. We had a lot of luggage on this trip and it was a bit of a struggle to the top floor. Room was a little warm and only the bathroom window opened... probably a good thing as it was raining in the morning and the "windows" were in fact skylights, being the attic room. There was a portable fan, but don't think there was any air conditioning, which could be more of a problem in the summer months.

Breakfast was fabulous. Staff were great and since we arrived late on first night, all communication and self check in were flawless. I found the bed super... my husband found it too soft for him... But the best night sleep I had for weeks! Neighborhood was very central but very quiet at night. Pub serving food right next door which was very convenient. Also quiet and not touristy. Complimentary snacks and drinks in the lobby very welcome, and nice place to sit and consume them.

I loved the style of this accommodation, especially the dark walls and quirky portraits on the walls. The beds were so comfy and clean. Although four posters, they were contemporary in style.

Great customer service, they really make you feel important! Absolutely spotless, lovely toiletries. Good size, lovely view from the room. Wonderful location. Great breakfast (with Yorkshire Tea- absolute must!), with the fabulous option to have this in bed. Cozy lounge with great decor throughout. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.
