Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWhat I said above!
During our stay at Cliveden, on the first night, I was awoken by a bell, which sounded like an old-fashioned telephone. I checked the room - No phone in room. There were tapping noises coming from the walls around the room - couldn’t say exactly where the noises were coming from, perhaps the Cliveden ghost? I don’t know, but it kept me awake for most of the first night we stayed there. I did report it to reception upon checking out and they said they would get back to me but so far no one has got back to me, which is a little disappointing.

United KingdomThe room was not in the best of condition with water marks on the wallpaper. For the price of the room it was not very special. Often at dinner we had to signal staff to fill our glasses. £35 for a full breakfast was a bit of a 'micky' take.
The location of the hotel is wonderful and the building is wonderful to be in. The staff are very friendly and professional

Belgiumgreat breakfast staff not up to standards for this kind of hotel noticed that on several occasions, they don't know etiquette, forcing you almost to taste the wine in the middle of your cocktail, serving the older ladies last, not knowing how to poor tea without spilling which is normal as the teapots are overfull, inox teapots (sorry but for this price and this standards you can't use inox) wonderfull breakfast buffet and fruit display again in an inox bowl, come on, some staff shabby dressed, puts a saucer down on a glass protected table, leaves a round stain doesn't come back, very familiar staff also, you order bacon, they ask you if it's good for your cholesterol, why because someone of the party didn't order exactly what was on the menu? he asked 3 eggs and 6 slices of bacon, which any cook can do. Fine dining isn't worth it, used to go to michelin star restaurants, this was really bad, this cook needs to do some stages in other hotels who are up to those standards, because this was really not good and completely overpices. A hotel of this standard can not have water infiltration in his main dining room next to a central painting or in one of the corridors where some of the plastering came down and has been gone for quite some time. Spa very nice, although indoor pool atmosphere overheated. Beautifull countryhouse but overprices and service not up to standards. Waiters should be in tails of white aprons, and much more handson. They take away breakfast plate and cutlery, so you have to ask for cutlery. Then she goes talking to colleages and comes back 7 min later... This hotel needs a new manager or someone who really goes there and scans it thorougly! astor grill ok food but nothing wow, same as you can get anywhere, chef doesn't put any effort in his dishes...

United KingdomThe price certainly did not match up to the hype and expectation. The room was tired, TV didn't work. No Mini bar, We booked in for the tasting menu at 8.30 & were still waiting at 11.30!

United KingdomHotel felt tired and living off the history of the place. Breakfast was disappointing. The produce was not high-quality, cheap bread, pastries and cooked breakfast. It was not what I would expect from a five star hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was ok but not amazing, didn’t warrant the price paid. Afternoon tea, sandwiches - bread was dry. Overall felt disappointed with the price that I have paid to stay there for one night.
The staff went above and beyond to be helpful.

United KingdomRoom that upgraded but didn't look like so, Service charge that came from every f*** place, Boring breakfast, no receipt at check out!
We stayed for 2 nights in December 2022. The positive points: The house was magnificent so as our room- The spa was luxerious with a small but nice swimming pool, towels and toiletries provided, staff were polite and car park was available free of charge. The gym was small though didn't bother me very much. Negative points: I booked an expensive room with separate sitting/living room and bedroom! they said they have upgraded us to a room in a main building. However, I am not still convinced as the upgraded room didn't have any living room! Then there was these service charges that came from every single direction! this wasn't clarified upfront and made a big difference to overall bill! we were never given a copy of the receipt either. Speaking of service my wife had her nails done and nail polish didn't last more than 3 days, Breakfast was very boring with fruits balls usually not re-filled until asked! poor collection of cheese and bread also noted overall average breakfast. The same was with the dinner at the main restaurant: boring menu.

United KingdomTatty in places . Our room had a smashed wash basin in it and bathrooms need some general tlc . lost restaurant booking ( and now full )which the front office were not that keen to take responsibility for ( despite evidence) or sort out with some serious pushing. Food very good but our dessert didn’t arrive… so much time passed and the staff were clearing up around us so we left ! Similar poor service for breakfast …. No tables in the breakfast room. I volunteered to go for a walk for 20 mins by which time they assured me I would have a table . When I came back the person had changed and was given the same story … no room in here ! They offered a table in the reception but I would avoid as you sit down low on a sofa with your food/table up by your chin … so not an experience I wanted ! After some pushing they sorted it . Generally the internal staff were just quick to say no and try on put a positive spin on inferior offerings.
Fantastic imposing building and lovely gardens/ views. Food in the dining room was very good Spa facilities are very nice and unusual to have indoor and outdoor pool . Grandeur of rooms Great doormen

United KingdomIt is expensive for what you actually experience. Having stayed in many wonderful places its about the personal touch - which was lacking, we had to ask what there was to do, what activities were on, things to try when the first time you stay, how the spa works, no bubbly on arrival in the room, small delighters. I even mentioned it was our 8th wedding anniversary, which didn’t prompt any response. we expect to be guided by staff or concierge proactively to make the most of a stay. For well over £2k for one day and night id hoped for better.
Location, gardens, quiet and well appointed. Good room with view of garden. Spa facilities lovely, massage average. Dinner was tasty and the bar a lovely place to hang out but cocktails a little lack lustre. Sorted out electric car charging but only after offering the distantly located paid charging system (of which we were not subscribed)
