Our room, room 9, was on the second floor, and one side of the bed had eves slopping down. Made me feel a little claustrophobic, but then I don't like sleeping in a bed that is pushed right up to a wall. So make of that what you will. Also, there is very little parking.

The room was clean with a sea view. Breakfast was good.

    Couldn’t fault anything.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, room was lovely, clean, had everything we needed. The most comfortable bed. Took our dog who also enjoyed herself, especially her daily breakfast sausage. Staff are lovely and friendly, always very helpful. Food was fantastic and plentiful.

There wasn't anything we didn't like

Breakfast was great, cooked to order, not a buffet.. Home cooked meals where very very tasty and reasonable priced. Shame it's not open to non residents..

    Happy with everything.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful - put us in a different room when they realised we had dogs, it was on the ground floor and near the back door so really good to get them out for walks. Beach across the road is really nice for dog walking (turn right when you go along it or you get to the dog exclusion zone v quickly.) Also good for fossil hunting. Nice breakfast, comfy bed, very good shower. Well stocked bar for the evening. Recommend the Thai that's just down the road too.

Unfortunately for us the only real thing we were not happy about was the Sausages at breakfast. We love a good Sausage. But on the second day we were able to substitute it for an extra slice of Bacon. So that rectified it.

Loved the bed and the jacuzzi bath. Lovely view from the room. Nice pleasant staff. Parking a bonus.

It would have been nice to have room with sea view but perhaps not available with having a dog, it wasn’t offered when I booked

Lovely and clean, dog made welcome, breakfast was excellent, spoilt for choice and even a sausage for dog, very friendly staff, hotel in good location across road from the sea. Parking available at front of hotel using a pass

    Everything was fine

A beautiful, large, clean room and a huge comfortable bed. Lovely sea views and a delicious breakfast each morning. The double glazing was exceptional. We couldn't hear a thing. This was our third stay at the Claxton, a great base for the North Yorkshire coast. We will return again.

Area prices for accommodation seem quite expensive.

The hotel was very clean. My room was compact and cosy. The bathroom with shower was tiny but adequate and the water very hot. Bed was comfortable as was a chair in the room. Useful supply of hanging space and pegs. The room heated up quickly when radiator on. Elegant red bricked house close to the sea. Simple dining area and bar with fresco of a trawler reminding us of its seaside community and fishing industry. Attractive ruby stained glass in main door adding a homely but elegant touch. Fully cooked breakfast if required. Good choice of relaxed suppers. Downstairs toilet useful in the hallway. Keys given to residents for front door if returning at night so providing independence. Hotel a little like a private club, quiet and peaceful, amid the noisy bars and pizza restaurants nearby. There’s a welcoming fish and chip shop round the corner. Good welcome on arrival. Homely and friendly. Felt safe on my own and good base for trips into Saltburn and elsewhere including Whitby by bus x4, with stop opposite the hotel.

I stayed for one night at the Claxton as I was travelling for work. I didn't need anything too flash, just somewhere to eat and sleep. The welcome/check-in was great. The rooms were functional and clean. The food in the evening was very tasty and good value, and breakfast was delicious. All of the staff were very friendly and accomodating.
