Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI understand that the hotel is being refurbished - it was previously a nursing home and clearly the occupants took a fairly cavalier attitude to their rooms (this was however reflected in the price). Could have done without the empty beer bottle behind the sofa and the non working "pop up" bath plug.
Very good location next to the castle, friendly reception, "continental" breakfast was more extensive than we expected. Ground floor has been redecorated in keeping with the architecture & history of the building.

IrelandThe breakfast was only a continental one so we went across the way to the cafe which is owned by the hotel. We received a 10% discount voucher
The staff were very friendly. The bed was very uncomfortable and we asked if they could do something about it. The next day they changed the mattress for a new one which was perfect.

United KingdomCar parking was a little difficult but we managed to squeeze in.
The hotel was brilliantly located with 2 lively Public Houses, an Indian and Spanish restaurant within 100 yards. It was only a short walk into Lincoln town centre and the quayside. The cafe in the courtyard was owned by the hotel and provided a good cooked breakfast at a reasonable price. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful. The furniture in the room was old fashioned but this is exactly what we like in a hotel room. All in all this hotel was an excellent choice.

United KingdomNothing.
Excellent location at the foot of the castle walls. Close to all amenities in the upper part of Lincoln and only a short walk down into the centre of the city. The walk back is good exercise! Rooms are comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast is continental with a good selection of cereals and pastries.

United KingdomNothing. A fridge in the room would have been useful, but apart from that - nothing!
This is an old historic building. It is wonderful that some people have the ambition and inclination to make something of these old places. This place is not a brand spanking new Premier Inn, or Hilton, with all its mod cons. It is a beautiful building that deserves to be cared for and enjoyed. We have total respect for the people who have decided to make a go of this place. There's a lot of work and investment still to be done, but we absolutely loved the place. We were short of nothing and had all that we needed. The room in particular was big, and even had a dressing room and separate lounge. Wonderful. Its position is superb, and we had a fab time in the nearby hostelries . We will be back there again.

United KingdomThe wooden blinds in the bedroom let in light, curtains as well might be the answer.
The location was brilliant. I understand what other reviews have said about the hotel needing a bit of TLC but I think you have to look at the bigger picture. The hotel has a history, it used to be the nurses home for the psychiatric hospital which was on the same sight. The bedroom was clean with good facilities; a comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The shower was great and there was a huge sink! The continental breakfast had everything you could possibly want.

United KingdomThe room was a little tired and bare. It felt like hospital quarters and after googling the building realised it once was. No mirror, wallpaper peeling off, shower holder broken. Fortunately the friendly staff and excellent location made up for this.
The location was amassing, right near the castle and old part of the city. Lots of charming places to eat and drink on your doorstep.

United KingdomGrubby and needs work doing. The hotel bar was not open. Also there was a wedding planned so breakfast was not organised well and had to wait for a table, no bin to put rubbish in either. Room very grubby and needs a complete overhaul. Also no lift so if you have luggage and on 2nd floor then could be a struggle.
Staff very pleasant and location is perfect
