Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt was up 2 very steep flights of stairs to our room and my husband has COPD which didn't make this easy for him. We mentioned that it could do with a lift, however, this is not possible due to the age of the house and layout.
breakfast was lovely. Room was very quirky as it is a very old house and we were up in the eaves. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept and all the staff are fantastic and go out of there way to make you feel comfortable.

United KingdomOur room was right at the very top of the property so we had some wonky flooring and stairs which at times were a little challenging, so not suitable for everyone but we loved the peacefulness of our room.
Lovely feel to the property and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

United KingdomThe decor was tired bathroom shower didn’t work properly. If you want modern and plush this is no the hotel for you. But if you like old buildings it’s great.
The staff were wonderful helpful and very friendly. The breakfast was great set us up for the day. The view of the South Downs and the animals on the farm lovely. The hotel being a grade 2 listed made it even more interesting. Lovely old building.

United KingdomLow headroom areas were a pain, literally.
Needed to be careful in low headroom areas, one grandchild ended up with a large bump on his head. Room was quaint but comfortable. Breakfast was great with good service. Bed was a good size and comfortable

United KingdomThe bedroom ceilings were a bit too low for a tall person!
It's a wonderful place, beside a farm, super garden and couldn't be friendlier. Wonderful country feel but close to two nice pubs and the downs The breakfasts were very high quality indeed. We adored it. It is not the Ritz...a bit worn and rather basic but superb value for money.

United KingdomShower enclosure but I am fully aware of the challenges to upgrade.
Good value for money. It's an old listed building which come with it's challenges for modernisation. You get what you paid for and it's fair. Service was good and breakfast was good. Shower issue in 1 room and we reported. Shower enclosure was small but we were only staying 1 night so we were not concerned.

United KingdomMy only qualm would probably be the size of the accomadation. Our bathroom especially, it was tiny and quite hard to shower properly because of the size. However, being such an old character building I suppost these little quirks are to be expected but wouldn't be ideal for us if staying more than one night as my bf being 6ft5 would have felt a little too cramped.
Upon booking breakfast was included and as it was only £100 for the night for 3, so I wasn't sure what the quality would be like. However, I was very impressed the cooked breakfast was lovely and the concierge at all times was very attentive and catered to our every need.

United KingdomThe bathroom could do with a bit of TLC.
The building was very old and full of character located within a working farm. There is plenty of outside space and a limited bar. Brilliant location just a miles to Eastbourne and the Beach.

United KingdomIt was fine for me, but taller people would have to duck to get into the shower area. Unsurprisingly for such an old building the walls are thin so noise carries, although I didn't find it a problem.
Chalk Farm Hotel was comfortable and very convenient for walking on the South Downs. My room was very large with good quality tea, coffee and biscuits as well as a complimentary bottle of spring water. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was very good. The place has a lot of character and has an interesting George Orwell connection as it is thought that Animal Farm was based on Chalk Farm
