We stayed here during a cycling trip along the Coast and Castles route. The hotel is perfectly situated for this purpose as indeed it is for the new Scottish Coast to Coast route. From arrival, the staff could not have been more helpful. Drying facilities were offered to wet cyclists. Bikes were safely stored under cover (a new outdoor cycle store with Ebike charging is planned). The evening meal in the restaurant was absolutely superb and the breakfast options were again excellent. The highlight of our bike tour!!

This hotel is well established and long running and you feel it here. A warm and welcome feeling upon arrival persisted throughout our four day/three night stay. We had dinner twice in the main dining room which is more formal than the pub atmosphere around the bar. The food was delicious and the white table cloth service flawless. Breakfasts in the pub area—included in our rate—were also first rate and, again, with service to match. We’d make a point of staying here again.

Checking in was seamless. The breakfast was exceptional with extremely friendly staff. Able to park the car at the hotel. Lovely hotel with great walks around the town and surrounding area.

On the second floor and our room was very hot with uneven floors in the bathroom. My bed was very high up and the mattress was not the best. I felt I was falling out as the edge had collapsed a bit. Some of the staff were a bit grumpy, but others were lovely.

The restaurant and garden were lovely. Hotel was clean and the public spaces beautiful. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Absolutely nothing to fault.

The staff, bar, restaurants, housekeeping, reception obviously well trained to a very high standard. Everyone very polite, helpful, and very clean to high standard, went out of their way to assist. The food was excellent. I would definitely stay again and definitely recommend.

Only a small thing- We had very drab wall paper in our room not the least bit feminine. It would have been so much lighter to have had very pale walls.

Great centrally located property in Melrose. A great place to start St Cuthbert’s Way. Great food, beer and bar area. We loved the beef Bourgogne! Very friendly staff.

Didn’t like the amount of stairs to climb, was out of breath. Had no rooms on the first floor.

At breakfast, the lovely porridge was followed by scrambled eggs with smoked salmon which was absolutely awful. Note to your chef: please do not mix the smoked salmon into the scrambled eggs !

Very clean and comfortable. Evening meal very good. I absolutely loved the little individual teapot in the room - a nice touch !

If I am really looking very hard for something a bath in the room would have been nice. Quite understand though why there wasn't one as was small single.

Service in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss. The shower over the bath was not ideal as the ceiling of the bathroom was quite low.

Melrose is a pleasant place to stay. Staff were very friendly. Our room was spacious and comfy. Some of the food we had was very well cooked -light and crisp battered haddock at dinner, poached cod at breakfast.
