The room was absolutely fine to sleep in after a wedding at a local venue so didn’t get to spend much time in there. Breakfast was extremely good value for money and very large for the price. The staff were able to look after my bags while I was at the wedding and parking was easy and just behind the pub and clearly labelled when coming from London.

Stairs to rooms is very steep. Difficult with bags etc. Plumbing is clearly quite old. A few odd noises! However this should be expected in a building of this age

Breakfast was good. As standard for this type of accommodation. Staff pleasant and accomodating.

Bathroom was a little tired with black marks in the sealant around the bath and trim missing from floor areas. Car park is useful but has a very limited number of spaces.

Nice room and a good breakfast cooked to order. Perfect location for the town center. Friendly and helpful staff.

An adequate hotel in Halstead (Essex) with shortcomings.
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveler
    • Double Room
    • Stayed 2 nights

Reception was slow on arrival. The problem was simple - too few staff, all of whom seemed to be very hard working. No comfortable chair in bedroom. Lighting variable, and insufficient around the TV area. There were no wardrobe or drawers. There were two double electricity sockets in the bedroom, but only one socket in each actually worked, leaving insufficient sockets for recharging items. It left me wondering how safe the electrics were. Light over the mirror in the bathroom didn't work. For breakfast it was a very basic menu, with no fish option, and only instant coffee was available/offered. The restaurant offered a fairly basic pub menu, with a few 'specials' in the evening. The biggest problem was that the number of dishes available was extremely limited, and I got to my fourth or fifth choice before I hit lucky. Apparently they had had a very busy day (it was a bank holiday Monday), but one would have thought that they would have stocked up appropriately. I gave the restaurant a miss on my second evening, and went to a very pleasant Thai restaurant in the main street. Parking was available, but barely adequate for the number of guests (restaurant and residents) - no alternative practical parking, as far as I could see, was easily available.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but sometimes too few of them. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was clean, and had a bathtub with shower over (my preference). Breakfast was very reasonable, but nothing stood out as special.

Evening bar music too loud. No escape from the loud party under my room. Parking for local pickup very awkward. People not knowing local shops or buses or places of historic interest. Need some filter coffee in the morning.

The building beautiful. The location. Staff were friendly and responded to requests as best they could. One little lady Kuoi, helped me with case and trip up stairs to room. Meal evening very good.
