Food menu was basic (burgers) and breakfast OK. Rooms in need of a spruce up. Communication not great, couldnt get a reply to a query either on email or by phone. ....However, at the time of our stay it had just been taken over by new tenants so I hopefully the new tenants will turn it around and make it a success because the potential seems great.

Lovely building and pub, in a great location in Kirkby Stephen. Large room.

The staff were excellent for the two days we stayed there. Breakfast was good both mornings with a good choice and excellent service. The accommodation was a little dated and perhaps needed redecoration but it was very clean and comfortable.

The evening food menu is a bit fast food cheerful and burgers. Breakfast was very expensive and so I would not suggest taking that.

The check in was quick. The room was big and right in the centre of town. The room had a nice bath and access to and from the hotel relatively easy free long stay car park 5 mins away.

There was no chef in due to holiday and sickness which was a shame as we were going to book breakfast directly with the hotel. As such when we checked out nobody was around to leave our room key with so left with a phone at the end of the bar.

It is not value for money. The rooms are tired. Understand it’s an old property but the rooms need updating.

Shower was a trickle of water on either scolding or freezing and needing replacing. Room was dark. Bed was a double but absolutely tiny.realistically hotel need to provide a king size these days.

Good location very clean and allowed us to use our tool early as we were attending a wedding locally after a drive over from Manchester Hotel was quiet

No frills hotel on the Coast to Coast path

I didn't take breakfast as it was served too late, I wanted to get out and walking early. This wasn't such a problem as I was able to buy myself breakfast from a local shop the night before. The place is a little rough around the edges and dated but does the job for a C2C stay.

The room had a bath which was really great for a Coast to Coast walker for a good muscle soak at he end of a long day. The hotel was perfectly situated on the trail and also with lots of amenities; shops to stock up on snacks, and other pubs and restaurants.

Window didn’t open. Bit old fashioned - but that’s just the style based on the area and the pub.

Nice spot. Fairly basic. Double bed and single in room with bathroom. Above a pub in the main st corner in Kirkby Stephen - ideal for a quick visit.

Rooms are small but if you just need a place to rest while walking the C2C the Black Bull will meet your needs perfectly.

Fantastic location with helpful and friendly staff. We appreciated the timely breakfast as we needed to get on the road early.
