The place has lots of potential but seems to be a bit run down. It looks like money hadn’t been spent on its upkeep for quite some time.

The staff were friendly and the food was good. The hotel was clean and comfortable.

Lovely clean room with a massive bed both bath n shower room looked onto garden which dog enjoyed walking in staff very friendly lovely breakfast staff would bring our dog a sausage every morning for his breakfast.

The building, although clean , was tired looking , and some of the bedroom furniture looked the same way . ( I stayed in room 5 ) The window in my bedroom didn't close firmly ( although I'll admit that this gave the advantage of me being woken by birdsong ......never a bad thing !!) and the curtains wouldn't close fully . Bathroom taps could do with being replaced too .

The staff were extremely good , friendly without being intrusive, and very helpful . Nothing was too much trouble . There was an efficient and relaxed atmosphere. The food was also very good. Tasty and freshly cooked , and value for money . I couldn't fault the cleanliness especially for what looks like an old building.

The shower was neither use nor ornament and the water temperature was cold. Thankfully there was a bath.

Nobody showed me to my room when I arrived - I had to find it and got confused and lost.... I had to put the ironing board up in order to be able to have a surface for the kettle where it could reach a plug socket. The extension cable was hanging out of the wall by the flex!! The shower wouldn't switch off. I had to ring reception and although someone came quickly, they couldn't turn it off either and I had to wait for one of the room cleaners to come and do it. The staff did want to be helpful.

Lovely friendly staff Nice grounds/location Reasonable food in very grand dining room! Felt very at home and relaxed there. The staff were very obliging and even insisted I borrowed an umbrella to go out in the rain for example.

We felt the whole place is struggling and would be blessed with an injection of money to keep the place as beautiful as possible. The curtains and decor etc was tired and in need of attention. This didn't spoil our stay, we felt sad that lovely homes like this are suffering from lack of funds. As most of the country.

The grandeur of the buildings and friendly staff

It was a mix of faulty towers and a haunted mansion. The room was quite dangerous. I know, this sounds silly but the bed had a strange set of stairs outside the bathroom and the shower was also up 2 steps in the bathroom. The 4 poster bed in the supposed bridle suite creaked like an old ship and had a stupidly sharp piece of wood at heel height. Caused my Achilles much pain! You aren't blessed for lots of accommodation in that part of the country so you have to take what you can get. The pics are quite misleading I believe. They make it look quite grand, regal even. It is not though. I didn't have a terrible stay but equally, I didn't have. Good stay either.

There was plenty of parking and they had a decent beer on tap.

was directed upstairs to the room and it was on the ground floor. booked very last minute and got a room much in need of updating, hot water took ages to get to the sink in the bathroom

Lovely old world hotel, lots of character. Very friendly staff. Good value food. Hotel parking is welcome. Very convenient stop on the Coast to Coast footpath.
