The decor, cleanliness and welcome were excellent particularly the lady who provided our light dinner in the early evening, it was freshly prepared and very good and the 2 ladies who served breakfast were very efficient and friendly.

What an amazing little Scottish gem this is. A beautiful country house nestled in the most glorious gardens and decorated to such a high standard throughout that the owners should be rightly very proud of. When booking Accommodation, if you have pets, one of the requirements is that it is ‘dog friendly’ There is a huge difference between being dog ‘tolerant’ and dog ‘friendly’ ….. the Balcary House falls into the latter spades ! This certainly ticks that box in all areas and our dogs were made hugely welcome with rooms specifically assigned as dog friendly….. There was even an enclosed paddock to allow the dogs a good run as well … something not always available Fabulous residents areas with a well stocked bar and wonderful owners who are happy to chat. Breakfast was superb and I thoroughly recommend the porridge😋 . The lodges that are specifically designed to enable dogs to stay with you are spacious, beautifully decorated with a tasteful design everything was spotless clean. Thank you so much for making our trip across the borders so pleasant we will certainly be back

Lack of drawer space in the bedroom. Rooms looked amazing but not very practical for the user. A few drawers would make all the difference. Also in our room the mirror was placed over the toilet rather than the sink so was not practical, had to straddle the toilet to get close to the mirror. Could have benefited from a slightly larger sink too.

breakfast was lovely. as this was for my wedding it would've been better with a full length mirror and chairs (bridal hairdresser & make up done there). It wasn't any bother for staff to accommodate my needs.

Quite a long walk from the town centre (but handy for the lovely park just opposite).

Spacious nicely furnished room, big bathroom. Nice sitting area and bar. Good breakfast included. Nice wooded grounds. Plenty of parking.

We stayed in room 5 and we could hear the conversation from Room 6 very clearly through the walls. It was quiet at night though so not a problem. The room wasn’t made up on our second day but there were apologies for this.

Set in beautiful grounds, within walking distance if Town Centre. Reception was very helpful. Good recommendations for places to eat in town. Lovely breakfast. Would stay again

Staff whom were serving breakfast, table wasn’t set, seemed like they were in a guddle, brought us our tea and coffee without any milk, sat for about 10 minutes before someone was back on the floor in the dining room, coffee and tea was then cold, brought our toast…. No butter, again waited around 10 mins again! Staff member told us there had been mistakes made that morning. However… breakfast was piping hot and delicious

bed would've been better if it was a larger, divan bed , as the mattress was smaller than the wooden slatted bed frame and the gap between the mattress and base of frame had to be padded out with some cushions. as it's a honeymoon suite, fresh flowers would've been a lovely touch

The rooms are lovely. The breakfast was top notch and Bob the chef/manager, is a pure gent. The ladies in the dining room are all very polite. Sue, the owner is very friendly, her husband, not so much. We kind of got the feeling we were intruding. Lovely friendly dogs running around the grounds.

When contacting hotel, male who answered phone was very abrupt and not particularly friendly- all the other staff we met in the hotel were lovely, particularly the waitress who served our breakfast.

Although there was a bar/room snack menu no one mentioned it and I’m not sure if it was available. The door to the bar was open but it was empty and since it wasn’t mentioned at check in I don’t actually know if it was open or not.

The location was great, plenty of space for our car. The breakfast and staff in the breakfast room were lovely.
