Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomPerfect location, only a short walk into the city. The room was spacious and clean with everything we needed, including tea, coffee and hot chocolate. TV in the room offered plenty of channels, although we didn't really use it. The bathroom was exceptional with plenty of hot water, soft towels and some toiletries. Breakfast was served promptly and nothing was too much trouble. The waiting staff had one purpose, and that was to ensure every guest had everything they wanted and needed. On arrival we were greeted and provided with detailed information about the area, as well as a map that directed us into town. There are plenty of menus and local business information available. Co-op across the road should you need it and a gorgeous little bar if you fancy a drink or two before heading in for the night. The car park is small but there is no extra fee, so it was ideal for our stay. We will definitely stay again.

United KingdomEverything was perfect and exceeded all our expectations.
Loved everything about it, the house, the room, the breakfast. The whole place was spotless, and with so much character and so authentic I felt like I was living somewhere very special. The room had all comforts, and it was such a relaxing environment. And very quiet, despite it being on the ground floor. The breakfast was excellent and everyone so friendly and attentive to every guest’s needs. The location was great, easy walking distance from the city centre, but without the noise, and there was a small Coop just opposite, which was very handy to pick up some snacks one evening we were too tired to venture out again for dinner. We will certainly be back again as soon as we can.

United Kingdomthe only thing I didn't like was the mattress, it was on a gorgeous carved four poster bed, but was springy and uncomfortable, not to our taste, but not necessarily a problem for everyone.
the house and the rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is tasty and there's plenty of it. Very good value when included in the price too. the staff and host are friendly and welcoming, with quick service at breakfast too.

United KingdomThe only complaint was the bathroom was quite small and due to the placement of the shower door it was near impossible to turn on the shower without being stood in it which made showering very young children tricky.
Big room, massive bed, quiet location, great breakfast and friendly staff.

The hotel was very good, the room was spacious and modern and exceptionally clean. The room facilities were very good and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel's location is perfect for getting into the city, no need to use the car, there is a bus stop two minutes away that takes you into the city.

United KingdomAdvertised as having car parking. There was in fact only 8 spaces for 23 rooms, we were there 3 days and we never managed to get into the car park. However it wasn't a problem for us -short stay restricted street parking outside hotel and unrestricted street parking nearby. We just thought this should be made clearer, that's all.
The room and bathroom met our expectations, enjoyed the four poster bed. The breakfast was excellent. For a small hotel there was a great amount of choice, both buffet and cooked. The cooked breakfast arrived piping hot and good quality ingredients. Had a big bowl of porridge one day. Spoilt for choice. Walking distance of city centre so able to avoid having to drive and pay York's expensive parking costs.

We have stayed many times here as we rate it one of the best places in York. Up there with the Minster. We know that it will be very good, very clean and very good in everything else. We can stay knowing that it will be excellant in every manor. Only problem is, it is so good you have problems getting a room

AustraliaThe bed was too firm. Travelling for hours in an uncomfortable car all day, the one thing you look forward to is a comfortable bed, sadly this wasn't to be.
Ascot House is situated close to town, within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The room was lovely and clean with almost all the necessities you would expect from a stay (this hasn't been the case on this trip). The doona was lovely and warm, but could have been tucked in more as it came out not long after we turned out the light. We opted to only have a continental breakfast (as we have been having hot breakfasts all on this trip, we needed a break). There was plenty of choice.
