Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing! Parking for one car, denoted by cones put out by owner at end of mews - not their fault the public will sometimes ignore them or even shift them! As with all the little villages around there, parking is tight. We always found somewhere (Barley Mow let us park with them one night when they were quiet - we asked 1st!) Only if one of your party is really immobile or absolutely unable to carry bags for any distance, might it be a problem.
Beautiful village, with great walks in every direction, including famous ascent of Pendle Hill. 2 equally recommended pubs for food/drink within 2 mins walk! Cottage just lovely; incredibly well-equipped, beautifully appointed rooms, very comfortable beds and much more spacious than photos depict. And dog-friendly too. Just wish weather had allowed us to sit out on pretty patio sipping our coffee. But it was February!

United KingdomOnly thing is the parking is limited. Other than that there were no issues at all but you can find space further down the lane
Cottage was lovely. Everything we needed and more. Was a lovely size. Rooms nice and big with nice bathrooms. Living room cozy with the fire. Very peaceful. Would definitely stay again 😊

United KingdomParking was not easy, as the centre of the village is reserved for permit holders only. The large car park charges (£3) per day but overnight parking is not permitted (car park is locked).
Absolutely fantastic cottage, we loved every aspect of it! It was large and extremely comfortable, we felt very relaxed throughout our stay. The kitchen was amazing with the range of utensils and equipment. The lounge had two large sofas with throw-overs so again comfort had been fully considered. The log fire was set ready for us and was very easy to use. Again, the bedrooms were luxurious choice of walk-in shower or full size bath in the en-suite bathrooms, with plenty of hot water at all times. The bottle of wine on arrival was most appreciated, many thanks.

United KingdomNothing. It was all wonderful.
The cottage was fabulously presented, clean, and a lot bigger than it looks in photos. All the little details such as a bottle of wine, milk and juice in the fridge. The kitchen had EVERYTHING you could ever need. Each bedroom had its own lovely ensuite. I cannot fault this property. Simply stunning. I cant wait to go back!

United KingdomThe parking was a bit iffy as it's roadside parking. We had a van load of equipment for work and had a bit of a moment when we realised we might have to park some way away from the property as all the spaces through the village were taken. We walked up to the house and noticed that a section had been coned off at the top of the courtyard the cottage is in. The instructions did say to park across the courtyard and the end house was empty so we assumed that the cones were there to save that spot for the cottage (hope they were anyway!)
Attention to detail was great, house was very clean and tidy and a lovely place to sit and chill. The provisions were useful - milk, beer, brewing up stuff - and the kitchen was well equipped. It is just a few doors down from the local pub which serves decent food (although service was slow on the night we were there). We only stayed 1 night but would have loved to have been able to stay longer. The location is great, very, very close to Pendle Hill. We all had a restful night's sleep which helps when you're back on the road at 6 in the morning.

United KingdomNothing by the host could’ve been better… however as it was the weekend, the parking was a little bit tight. We parked in the Pendle inn up the road and spent some money there each day to support them. We hadn’t realised that it wasn't a shop nearby, so next time we visit, we will do a shop first and I save having to go further afield. The host very kindly left us some essentials
Loved the facilities. Wasn’t expecting there to be 2 en-suites and a downstairs loo. Cottage was spacious and beautiful. The location was perfect for relaxing and walking.

United KingdomIt was very odd that I was unable to find a chopping board but in such a well-appointed kitchen, I'm sure that was just an oversight. Everything else we could possibly need was there. We managed. For us, an Aga that is permanently on in August was uncomfortable. We opened doors and windows and luckily the weather wasn't too warm.
Very comfortably furnished, clean, spacious. Lovely lounge, lovely en suites. Simple key pick-up. Wine, juice, and milk generously provided (great as there's no shop nearby). Nice pubs.

United KingdomNothing, honestly!
Beautiful cottage in a lovely village with two good pubs. The standard of the accommodation was very high, the photos can't really do justice to how nice it is. Big, comfortable beds, very, very clean everywhere, two sofas to stretch out on, and all nice and warm from the Aga. Plenty of room for wet coats and gear (we were walking). Nothing that could be improved upon, and I've booked plenty of accommodation in the past, so don't say this lightly.

Great 2 bed cottage in Barley. The cottage has everything you need and has an amazing Aga oven which is a pleasure to cook on and also heats up the house. Each bedroom has its own ensuite and is recently renovated. Barley is a pretty village with 2 pubs and you can walk up Pendle Hill or lots of other walks in the area. We were with our two little girls and there is a nice play area in the village. The host answered quickly and was helpful. Highly recommended.
