Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBathroom is very small. Maybe a little updating would help.
A delightful, traditional appartment right on the ramparts. Gaëlle gave us clear directions for our arrival. Given the nature of the building, it is not spacious but the location is fantastic. It is clean and equipped with all that you need. There’s only a sofa bed but this didn’t cause any problems. We’d like to thank Marc and Gaelle for their hospitality and flexibility.

ItalyAfter years of travelling, for leisure and for work, we had our first awful experience. The smell of mould and sewers at night becomes insufferable, to the point that your throat hurts. There is white mould all over the bathroom and some beam. Pieces of plaster of 4-5cm fall from the ceiling (one hit a guest on her face during her sleep). The only solution provided was to clean the house, but it was primarily a safety concern. No AC or dehumidifier is present, which would help improve the unsanitary conditions of the apartment. Furniture is scarse and not practical: the table is a picnic one with holes, laid against a railing (eating on it is a challenge); the wardrobe is full of cleaning products, so it cannot be used; a big boiler is installed right next to the second bed; the sofa-bed must be closed every day, else you cannot stay in the living room and is heavy to unfold; the mattress is thin and uncomfortable; the TV has some pixels damaged in the middle; in the kitchen there is no prep space and there is no space to store food. Ants can be found everywhere, including the kitchen table. Only one towel is provided per person for a week (to be used for face, body and all) - bring your own! The bathroom vent fan exhausts to the inside of the house. The windows face directly the street on both sides, so there is no privacy. There is no doorbell. Opening the external door is a struggle, as the door is old, broken, and the lock is placed in a hole in the wall. No garbage recycling can be done.
Great position, 5-10 minutes to the beach. Close to restaurants and shops. Good Internet connection, necessary as phone networks don't work properly in the house.

GermanyThere was a terrible smell in the apartment, a combination of wet and mould. It was cold, I had to use the electric heating. The window faces the ramparts, every morning at 8, the road works would start and there was no privacy inside. I also couldn't open the window because there was kitchen smell from outside. The sleeping arrangements are very poor, one bed in the basement, dark and cold. I used the extended sofa upstairs, the mattress had a plastic cover under the sheet. Also, you can hear every step the people in the flat above are taking. No shower gel. The remote for the TV had no batteries. To unlock the door to the street, I scratched my hand every time since it was a whole in the wall.
The location is wonderful. The communication with the host for check-in/check-out was very good, via WhatsApp.

CanadaThere was no real bed. The sofa bed was superbly uncomfortable. You could just sleep on the very end of the bed as in the middle you would sink in. Also no bed sheet, only the cover. We had three nights of almost no sleeping.
