Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainThe rooms were too damp The other travelers were not very respectful of common areas, hanging laundry wherever they could. Felt a bit like a college boys’ dormitory

It's a bit rundown, dingy, but that staff are doing their best! Needs a big refurbishment

RomaniaI have never stayed in a hostel so far, was the first single night (actually a few hours because I had to leave at 6 AM). I did not know what to expect, so here are the facts presented as objectively I can: - stayed in a 4-bed dormitory, mixed, downstairs - very noisy due to the 24-hour reception desk just outside the dormitory, also it was near the main entrance/staircase/common area/toilets/kitchen etc. - 2 mixed toilets, each with its shower and 1 common lavatory space (they were ok to use, I've seen worse) - no towels provided - sheets provided, blanket provided, locker key provided - the lockers are inside the dormitory, a lot of noise when accessing them while the others are sleeping (or trying to sleep) - a broken plug near the bed but the extension cord provided - kitchen a bit dirty - did not use it, only accessed to put smth in the fridge, where I barely had some space as it was almost full - working AC in the room - The terrace was not accessible that night (the staff said it closes after a specific hour) - shower gel/shampoo not provided - hands soap in the lavatory available - no towels (textile or paper) at the lavatory available -

South AfricaMale occupants did not respect the "female only" bathroom facilities and this was less than ideal. After complaining to staff on duty they were proactive but really needed to communicate properly to male occupants that this was not acceptable, or monitor it better. It did not make me feel safe as a solo female traveler. Rooms are poorly ventilated and no matter what the weather it is always very hot inside the hostel, despite working aircon in the room.
The facilities were cleaned regularly. Rooms and line provided in good condition and clean.

Great location, accessible, late night check in was OK, AC in the room and also window to the street. Lockers were assigned to each bed - key was provided by the hostel without extra fees.

AustraliaThere were no power sockets next to the bed, and it was not a social environment whatsoever. There was a family with a young baby that stayed in our 10 bed dorm which was strange as usually there is a policy against this.
A clean, quiet hostel in a good location. Even though the staff did not speak english, they were friendly and tried to help us where they could.

United KingdomThe guy working at the reception wasn’t welcoming and didn’t understand the requests of the guests. Besides that, he didn’t speak english which for a Hostel with international guests is absolutely necessary. The rooms don’t have a lock, so anyone is able to get inside which is very problematic for people who are away most part of the day and even more for a female room.
The air conditioner in the bedroom and living room was amazing to stay away from the heat outside. Also, the kitchen was well equipped to cook everything and a good space to eat there.

CanadaStrange rules that weren’t outright stated: e.g turn off lights even when leaving a room for a moment; staff insisting you whisper in main room even after quiet hours are over in the middle of the day because staff are sleeping. Broken locks on lockers / easy to jig open.

United StatesThe planter boxes in the upper level have some sort of little insects living in them that caused me uncomfortable bug bites. The doors are cut too long, causing loud sounds when residents are coming and going. Seems like an easy fix that would greatly increase guests’ rest and experience. The pretty courtyard echoed which made for a strange atmosphere of guests trying to quiet so as to not bother others. This caused an atmosphere of restraint rather than ease. Luckily, one staff member was especially warm and welcoming. His name was Dery and he was positive, helpful and accommodating. Dery made all the difference in my comfort level.
The location was so great and made it very easy to walk to all the sights and eateries in the central area.Liked the efficient air conditioning with individual controls for sleeping. The cleaning lady works all day everyday to keep it clean and the hostel was always very clean and sanitary. Laundry available.
