Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaIt was very noisy in the room so you definitely will need to use earplugs to sleep well there. Since I always have them in my travel bag, it was perfectly fine for me in the end. The shared bathroom was really old and a bit dingy, but with hot water and very clean.
Brilliant location. Just a few minutes away from the big museums as also Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol. Right in the pub/bar area and perfectly connected. The hotel itself is very simple in its accommodation, small rooms and with old furniture, but it was OK for me, since I only needed a clean and warm place to sleep. All in all it was wonderful for the price I paid. Perfect if you travel alone and just want to be out all day to see Madrid.

PortugalThe overall quality of this place leaves much to be desired. Our room was very hot and noisy - we could hear people taking a shower in one of the shared bathrooms. There are no toiletries and we had only one medium-sized towel, in my opinion too small to dry myself up after taking a shower.
The location of this hostal is second to none. It's in Calle Atocha, connecting the Atocha train station to the town centre and is very central, half way between the metro stations of Tirso de Molina and Antón Martin. Although it wasn't exactly cheap, it was the cheapest accommodation I found at last notice. The beds were very comfortable.

United KingdomOther reviews have mentioned the stairs to the hostal - I'm guessing the building is turn of the 20th Century, and the stairs are original and so have been worn away unevenly. That wasn't a problem for us, and there is a lift if you are worried about them.
The rooms are in a quirky old building in the centre of town, just by Antón Martín metro stop. They are comfortable and clean and have everything you need - a bed, desk, ceiling fan, shared bathrooms, shared microwave and fridge, strong wifi. The person who runs it is lovely - he was very helpful with my brother, who arrived a day earlier than me and speaks not a word of Spanish.

SerbiaIt was a bit noisy, because, sometimes I heard guests from other rooms or apartments. Also, sometimes I could hear water in the pipes...it seemed like something was broken...but overall nothing that ruined my vacation.
Location was excellent, actually in the center of Madrid! Better than I expected. The staff, the man I checked in with, was so reliable and helpful. He explained to me everything that I needed. In addition to the room I could use 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets, refrigerator and a microwave.

IrelandThis time, I have to say rooter might be check because signal WI-FI was poor (previously perfect and always have the same room when stay there).
My 4th time at this place, quiet area and few steps to all city centre attractions. Room small but cosy, enough to get roof above your head, bed and shower (might be better to installed some door because water is coming to the floor and there is no extra towel to clean, just using bathroom after other person, you coming into wet floor).

NorwayThe staircase is very dangerous. Normally I would take the stairs (to the second floor), but in the end I took the elevator. The stairs are totally woren out. Plus they are slippery. I am very used to using staircases and in excellent condition but I nearly fell down two times. This is also dangerous incase of fire.
Simple, but decent place only two stops from the Atocha train station.
