Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hotel Raratonga is a great place to stay when visiting Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. The hotel is located just 100 meters from the beautiful Playa Santa Teresa beach, perfect for surfers and beach lovers. The rooms and apartments are spacious, clean, and comfortable, with air conditioning, a coffee maker, refrigerator, and a shared terrace or private patio. The hotel has a lovely swimming pool and beautiful tropical gardens[2][3]. The staff (Alessia) is very friendly and helpful, always willing to provide information about local activities or assist with booking tours. The location is ideal, within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shops, and a supermarket. Overall, Hotel Raratonga is an excellent choice for a stay in Santa Teresa.

United StatesPARKING on the property is EXTREMELY LIMITED, with only 3 spots available for ALL guests. Consequently, you will most likely need to park on the street. We specifically sought a place with private parking, and this hotel came up. Considering the situation for most guests, it should perhaps be listed as "no parking”.
Located near the end of a busy street, this place enjoys a quieter setting. It features gated access, ensuring safety, though parking is on the street due to the extremely limited on-site availability (only three spots for all guests). The grounds are clean, and the pool is inviting. The rooms are clean, tastefully built, and decorated. Amenities include hot water, a mini-refrigerator, and air conditioning, all contributing to a simple yet cozy atmosphere. We stayed in a room on the second floor and loved how naturally bright it was, although be prepared—it’s quite a climb!

ThailandThere are lots of stairs even if you have a room on the bottom floor. The stairs are ok unless you have super heavy luggage then it’s quite the workout getting your bags up to the top floor.😉
Alessia the host was super nice and very responsive. Raratonga is in a great location- close to great food and the beach as well and its also super quiet. Room was comfortable and clean.

CanadaIn comparison to all the other places we stayed at in Santa Teresa, everything there was great.
This review is our last review after 3 weeks in Santa Teresa. We wanted to wait after the trip to provide a good feedback by also comparing with the other places we stayed during our trip in the same area. This is our top recommendation by far! Owner - the owner, Valentina, was very helpful and accessible. She even organized our taxi in and out; set us up with one of the best surf instructor in Santa Teresa. Side note, if you are looking at surf lessons and/or renting a board, check out Denis shop, directly on the beach, less than 5 minutes walk from Raratonga; best prices in all of Santa Teresa and right on the beach. Clean - by clean, we mean, very clean. They dusted, wipe, mopped and cleaned everything every single day. Laundry service on site - good price and done the same day. Pool - super clean and no chlorine smell. 2 minutes walking distance from a grocery store on one side and 2 minutes to a local restaurant, Soda, the other way. Both places are also very good in comparison to similar places in the area. Actually, that Soda was the best of the many we tried and came as a recommendation from the owner.

The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Santa Theresa. The staff at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Raratonga is one of the best hotels in Santa Theresa. The best hotel I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Costa Rica. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Pura-Vida.

Great for many reasons. Comfortable, clean, secure, beautiful landscaped gardens, lovely pool to fall in after the hot dusty street, location is close to great surf breaks. For us the location away from the busy bustling end of the street was perfect as we don't need the party scene.

United Statesa cushion or two would make the bench seats inside and the great wooden lounge chairs outside much more comfortable. There is dust from the road because my apartment faced the road but all the convenient roadside locations everywhere would also be dusty.
The garden is overwhelming beautiful. The pool is very clean and the outdoor shower is great for beach salt and sand. Steps to beach access, steps to a versatile market, and steps to good food at Soda Tiquicia
