Cooking facilities are not the best. Also, there are a lot of bugs in the room. A mosquito net could have made things easier.

The place is right on the beach, very quiet and chill, a lot of privacy and space. The pool is nice.

It's not that I didn't like it. Squeaky stairs/ floor 🤣 so everyone knows that you're going to the washroom at night, it works also other way around you can hear if someone is on the way to you🙂

Nice and quiet place to stay away from the crowd, real Pura Vida for the first time, don't forget your own supply if you are preparing food .You have fridge , little swimming pool, propane stove... 4 nice dogs, exceptional view on the beach( it's waterfront property). You can hear howler monkeys at night probably 20 meters away from your cabin. We had a car so with gps was very easy to get to( no need for 4x4 at all), newly ( same day we came) opened restaurant on the corner , 50 m away with good food, not expensive, corner store 5 min away, Italian pizza...

There was really nothing we didn't like or expect.

Our host Jim was a wealth of information regarding the flora and fauna and his efforts to protect the local environment.

You either like this place or you don't. We liked it a lot. Don't expect a place that is 100% perfect but if you like to be in the jungle with large trees around you, if you like the sound of the Howler Monkeys in the morning, if you like a beautiful sunrise at the beach (rocky) or want to see the moon rising above the sea in the evening then this is the place for you. It is quiet. Enjoy the swimming pool and prepare your own food in your kitchen. The rooms are clean and Jim is a nice person who'll help when you ask him.

I don’t have a car so it would be nice if they sold coffee or some snacks

The bed was comfortable, the owner of the place is really nice and there is a perfect area set up for watching the sunrise or the stars by the beach.

Shallow water and rocky beach, so you need shoes.

The place is deeply relaxing., being only 50 M from the ocean. Though the water is quite shallow, only swimmable at high tide. The pool is very nice, with some shade all the time. There is a troop of howler monkeys that passes over in the trees a couple of times a day. . I enjoyed using the kayak to go to a small island nearby. The owner, Jim, was helpful about restaurants and other places to visit. The grounds are shady and pleasant, with friendly dogs to enjoy. It's close to a couple of waterfalls. The beds were also comfortable, with plenty of ventilation in the room. Kitchen facilities are basic, but serve for preparing most meals. It's a great value and I will come back whenever I can.

There are steps up to bedroom, so my bathroom visits at night sometimes a bit wet, BUT i enjoyed seeing Mr toad outside my bathroom door and lots of hermit crabs running around, careful not to tread on them.

Location right on the beach, near restaurants and a small shop, lots of monkeys and lizards, lovely clean swimming pool (essential in hot weather), if you like dogs there are 4 of them, very friendly and protect the property from locals, felt very safe there, it's very rustic, and basic, bathroom clean and shower under cover, so if raining you can get dry easily after shower and other bathroom activities. The owner does play music quite loud sometimes but I enjoyed older style music. And he likes rugby 🏉. The owner is a colourful character and has loads of stories if you want to chat to him, lovely chap, Irish so I enjoyed being able to talk and ask questions about the area, he's been there 20 years so knows alot.

The Howler Monkey is a little piece of paradise

The Howler Monkey is a little piece of paradise. It’s peaceful and has beautiful wildlife and the ocean is only a few meters away. The bungalow is spacious and comfortable. So nice to lie down in there listening to the sound of birds and rain. Jim, the owner is a kind guy who loves and protects the animals. During my stay I found a hurt monkey on the side of the road a few miles away from the hotel. She just blinked at me and I wanted to help her but didn’t know how to. So I told Jim and he immediately said she’s hurt and we need to go rescue her. We got a ride from lovely Natalie, a guest as well, and we managed to find it, with its broken leg and arm. We called animal rescue at Cabuya a few times, insisting that they will come. We stayed by her to keep it safe till the vet got there. The female monkey is safe now and she is being treated till she’ll get released back into nature 🙏🍃 Jim made it possible with his kindness and caring heart. Thank you for the unforgettable vacation and experience.

The drive to Cabuya is a challenge in daylight and not recomendable at night. A 4 wheel drive or jeep is recommendable. Jim is friendly and very very relaxed. Do not pay in Colon, Jim takes a horrible convergence rate. The cabin is great bc of its location, but it is more glamorous camping than a hotel. The are no windows in the 'bedroom' only wooden blinds, the kitchen consists of a camping cooker, waterheater and a fridge. To go from the bedrrom to the kitchen or bathroom, you have to go outside first. It would be a great hostel to camp at, but for the price, I would expect much more.

Right at a non crowded beach, which is amazing and in the middle of the jungle, where you might see and hear monkeys 🐒 and lizards. The pool is great.

Jim was lazy and gruff at times. He liked to have the radio on for hours most days while I had hoped to enjoy the sounds of nature when on the property. I asked him to turn the volume down 3 times so he knew I was annoyed by it. Fortunately he never had the radio on early or late tho I would have liked to be able to have my breakfast before the irritating radio sound started. I was on the property much more than I had anticipated as it was very very hot and the tide was way out in the afternoons so that I could not easily cool off in the ocean. Sometimes I went up to my room to turn the fan on and watch Netflix because the radio was annoying me when I would have preferred to lie in my hammock. Jim had agreed to have my cabana cleaned every 3-4 days. But his cleaning lady quit and he then apparently did not think I should have my place cleaned. I finally asked for clean towels and sheets. He provided them but wanted me to do part of the work in changing the bed linen. I have occasionally changed my own bed linens when hosts were too lazy to do it when cleaning staff was not available. But I had sprained my ankle the day before and was painfully hobbling around with a walking stick so I did not want to endure more pain for his convenience.

I originally planned to stay 7 nights but stayed 10. I liked the very basic cheap accommodations with a kitchen on a quiet beach, with a hammock and pool. I booked the cheap small cabana and the host upgraded me to a larger one. I liked the dogs and took one for several walks on the beach. Jim told me where I could walk on the beach to buy fresh fish. It was only a 10 minute stroll to the closet grocery store. He gave me a beer on arrival and another one afternoon and never appeared intoxicated. He also gave me a ride to the nature reserve since I did not want to walk that far in addition to hiking in the park.

This lodge is a must for nostalgic hippy-surfers. Everything is guaranteed vintage, calmly and simply run down. The bungalows with an antique fan, the kitchenette like a mountain refuge. Everything is to match, including the owner!

The location, just a few minutes on foot from the Reserva Natural Absoluta Cabo Blanco, is really great. The surrounding small village is cute. The beach is OK and directly in the property. The pool is clear and fresh. The sea view and the howler monkeys in the trees above are real.
