Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing worth writing about.
Other reviews say it all. A really nice place to stay (two nights in our case). Marce and Fabio are great hosts with extensive knowledge of birds, ecology, etc. (Fabio is also a guide.) Room had (for us) the best mattress and sheets during two weeks in CR. We had really fine breakfasts, and dinners by arrangement. Coati in the tree adjacent to our balcony. Toucans, more toucans and other birds seen right from the open-air dining table, with scopes and guides at hand. The location is at 600m, with a view and nice breezes. No bugs at all (August). The road in is steep at times but paved in sections and well-compacted coarse gravel elsewhere; mud is no issue at all. Trails of the Finca Stellar entrance to the Bosque Eterno de los Ninos are a short walk up the road.

Birds and breakfast has everything a naturalist can dream of: a beautiful and active garden with lots and lots of bird species visits; many reference wildlife books from birds, mammals, reptiles…; great location not only for the stunning view but also for being next to the quiet area of Children's Eternal Forest; spotting scopes and binoculars available for birdwatching and very cozy elegant rooms and 24/7 coffee/tea bar. Big thanks to Fabio and Marcella for being such amazing host!

I had the most wonderful time at Birds & Breakfast! Everything was just perfect for me. The wooden house and the room is very charming and everything was spotless clean. Marcela and Fabio are lovely hosts and go out of their way to make their guests comfortable. I went on a night walk and an early morning bird watching tour with Fabio. I can highly recommend this, if you come here. Fabio has excellent knowledge of all the birds and frogs and more and spots them where you only see green vegetation.

United StatesA bit secluded and far from town and further from La Fortuna than expected
I can't rate this enough!! If you need a place to stay, come here. Marce and Fabio were the best hosts ever. The property is so beautiful and we were instantly greeted upon arrival after Marce personally arranged a taxi for us from downtown. They cooked us the most delicious dinner both nights we were there. The day after we checked in we were looking for something to go do. Marce and Fabio sent me all the bus times and gave me recommendations on where to go. The first place we went was a great restaurant with a giant property in the back with trails and a river. Our hosts personally called the restaurant owner so he was expecting us and took us on a little walk to see some sloths. Second place was an amazing sloth tour at a rescue center that helps animals that have been run over or electrocuted. Our hosts weber way above and beyond and it was a great memory that I'll cherish

United StatesNone!
We loved our stay at Birds and Breakfast! It felt like staying at your Costa Rican family friend's place - familiar, comfortable and not touristy / commercial. We booked a night walk tour with our host and loved it - he was so knowledgeable and showed us two sloths with their babies, red eyed tree frogs and many more animals that we wouldn't have been able to see on our own. Breakfast at this B&B was also spectacular - homemade breakfast everyday with a view of the many birds flying into the garden was something we'll remember. We even saw toucans from the garden! Location-wise, we debated staying in La Fortuna vs. here but I'm so glad we stayed here instead. La Fortuna is extremely touristy, commercial and stressful. This location is right next to the Eternal children's rainforest, which is equally great for hiking and wildlife but much less crowded than the alternatives near La Fortuna and very calm.

United StatesThat we had to leave after such a adjourned time.
The location was absolutely amazing. Great hiking right from the inn. Birds, sloths, frogs, everything right there. Great breakfasts. The hosts were really some of the most knowledgeable I've been around, and I'm not a beginner at these types of places. Outstanding all sound.

IsraelThe owners are super nice and helpful. They wreak havoc both working for many years as rangers on the rain forest reserve right by bird and breakfast so they are super knowledgeable about the area, animals and plants. Great place to view Toucans and many other birds. We also did the night tour with Fabio which was great :)

AustriaThere was nothing we didn‘t like. There are two friendly dogs - just do you know. Driving up should be done by a 4 by 4 car. We managed to do it with a 2 by 4 but we really struggled.
The owners have been friendly and super helpful & accomodating. The kitchen was free to use and well equipped. The garden was just beautiful and a good place to watch all kinds of birds. The hotel is up a hill in the middle of the rainforest which is lovely. This was the perfect start to out trip in costa rica! Thank you so much!

SwitzerlandNo mosquito net over the bed, but the hosts were very open to let us put up ours. Ticket prices to the local station feel quite steep (20$ p.p.), but on the upside you will most likely be able to enjoy nature without anybody else around.
Lovely hosts. Great breakfast on the terrace where you can spot a lot of birds, the local bird chart was a great idea! Possibility to use kitchen and fridge. Laundry Service was convenient (extra charge)

GermanyWe had a fantastic time at this place. You have a wonderful view from the terraces and we saw plenty of wildlife (kolibris, sloths, tucans and plenty of other colorful birds) which can bei experienced from up close with Fabios telescope. Marcella and Fabio took us on a nighttime and daytime walk and were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was tasty! In general, it was one of the best places we ever stayed. We were able to access the house with a regular car (no 4x4), but I guess it may be different depending on the season.

United StatesOnly the weather for our first two days, unusually cloudy and rainy but the warmth of Marcela and Fabio made up for that.
What makes Birds and Breakfast Very Special are its owners Marcela and Fabio. They treated us like loving family. I cannot say enough about their graciousness and hospitality. They went totally above and beyond our wildest expectations. They fully recognized that we two Floridians (me at 83 & my SO at 71) were not physically up to hiking those steep trails so they made up for it with other activities that we could comfortably handle. While birds are their focus and we saw/photographed many we also saw sloths and various animals and got to sample their local food extensively.
