Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI feel it is important to highlight that there is very little English spoken at the village, with the shows, etc in French. Some information is translated into English, but to get the maximum enjoyment out of the village, a good knowlege of French is reccommended. Also, if you have mobility or health issues that prevent you from walking up steep steps to your accommodation, it is wise to book a room on the ground floor.
Comfortable accommodation. Breakfast was substantial. Helpful and friendly staff - it is important to note tht interaction with the staff was all in French. We were able to view the waterfall without hordes of people. As it was early season, we had the cable car to ourselves, and were able to go back at night and watch the waterfall, which was illuminated. Quite breathtaking! The area is well maintained and the community is striving to improve and enhance the facilities.

CanadaThe Restaurant du moulin is beautiful only the dinner was way too expensive for what we ate (200$ for two). But the staff was attentive and took good care of the customer.
The site is exceptional. the breakfast was ok but more options like eggs and bacon would have been nice. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. We had great service and the rooms at the general store were 5 starts.

United StatesIt was a very uphill, tough ride from the Veloroute des Bleuets to get to the property. We had to walk our bikes uphill due to the steepness of the incline. Bike racks outside the “houses” where we stayed would have been nice.
We loved walking around the trails, and visiting the beautiful waterfall! We loved dinner in the Mill restaurant, and the continental breakfast was perfect before cycling out.

CanadaReally nothing. Although the information boards are all bilingual, the animation is in French. This was not a problem for us; however, in our opinon anyone would be able to follow the story just through the visual content - for example, the presentation at the Old Mill.
Aside from the erratic weather and some very reasonable restrictions due to covid, our stay at Val-Jalbert was perfect. The site is an authentic mill town that failed during the depression, was a ghost village for decades, and was slowly, but lovingly restored to become an historic village with animators, accommodation and a marvellous restaurant. The display boards are all bilingual and are very informative - clearly the project was seriously researched and historic accuracy was respected. There is a lot of attention given to the faces and names of the people who lived there during the early 1900's. While some of the old company houses are untouched, several have been redone into very comfortable and spacious accommodation. We enjoyed the large whirlpool bath and modern-walk in shower, and all the extra such as coffee-maker, fridge, iron and ironing board, safe, etc. - even two umbrellas and a flashlight. The Wifi signal was sporadic in our room, but was more reliable in the welcoming centre and restaurant. The highlight of our visit had to be dinner (which was included) at the Restaurant du Moulin. Saying it was delicious is an understatement - every bite was scrumptious, the food was beautifully presented, the service was perfectly paced. Our waitress, Natasha, was a marvel as she was alone - handling the verification of vaccinations as well as the reception of diners and payments afterwards. In spite of all this, our courses arrived at our table in a timely manner - just when we were starting to anticipate our next plate. EXCEPTIONAL!

United KingdomDownside, our room, (booked through booking.com which doesn’t tell you) was lovely but on the third floor ( 38 steps!) we were travelling round Canada so had to big suitcases, not good getting them up and down . Only a little thing no usb charging points. The property itself isn’t good for people with accessibility problems .the museum houses had steps in and out , but let’s face it that’s how they were built for the harsh winters
Loved the location and the fact that it’s in a historical village, no cars . The restaurant for evening meals and breakfast were good and there , if you wanted, a bistro for lunchtime. Could watch the magnificent waterfall all day and the views from the top of the cable car fantastic.
