Safe alternative to overpriced hotels before your cruise

The alley behind the hostel is a local hangout at night for the homeless. They urinate in between the dumpsters (or worse). There isn't much the hostel can do about this, I understand. Just know that this part of town gets a bit hairy at night.

This was a surprisingly clean and safe hostel. We were looking for an alternative for 2 nights before our cruise. All of the other hotels are so expensive! We decided to give our first go at a hostel and we were not disappointed. Keep in mind, this is a place to sleep and shower. You will have a bed and small table in your room. The bathrooms are cleaned every day. You are supplied with one towel. We did not need anything else. The cooking area is a common, shared space with other tenants who showed respect and courtesy. I would stay here again.

The ventilation of the room is very poor. The upper bed of the bunk bed doesn't have fence so I felt unsafe when sleeping on it. The locker beneath the bed doesn't have a lock so we need to bring our own lock or buy one for 10 CAD from the helpdesk. There is no hairdryer in the men's bathroom.

The location is super convenient and accessible by public transport.

The cost of accommodation in Vancouver is just ridiculous. This hostel included. It's a real deterrent to tourism.

I've stayed at a variety of hostels over the years so didn't expect any frills. This hostel is brilliantly located, staff friendly, secure, public areas cleaned regularly, bathrooms spacious. Kitchen & laundry were well appointed. My room was basic but clean, warm with a comfy bed. They have made the most of a funny old building.

Zero sound insulation in my window, could hear everything in the street below. Was placed directly above the bar and could feel the bass from the music downstairs while laid down. Barely slept as a result. Ended up sleeping with noise cancelling headphones on.

    Nice staff, good shower.

Staff was helpful and friendly, bathrooms were clean. The room is "basic" at best. But the price, while high, reflected that; price being driven by excellent location.

It was quite loud most of the night, but that was not unexpected - the booking info was clear that was the norm. While cheaper than most options available, it still felt quite expensive for what it was.

The amenities are very simple. The bathrooms don't have hand soap which I'd expect as a basic necessity these days. For what it is, it's super overpriced, but I suppose that's typical of Vancouver.

Staff were nice and the beds were comfy. The location is perfect for getting around downtown. Also, the attached bar/restaurant serves great food which you get a discount for as a guest.

Amazing location! The cleaning... Not so much

The cleaning of the hostel was... Not the best. We booked a private room and we found stains on the "clean bedsheets". The room also had a really really bad smell, we were forced to keep the window open at all time but it didnt help much. Our towels smelled bad too so we just used our own stuff. Female bathrooms were usually clean but my partner complained often about how dirty the male bathrooms were.

The hostel has cheaper prices than anything else in the area. The location is really amazing in the heart of downtown and right next to Waterfront train station so if you're looking to save some money and explore the city it is a perfect place to stay at. Also, it is surprisingly quiet. I was expecting to hear all the loud music from the pub but we never had any issue with that! Service was also great, all the staff at the desk was always polite with us.

Majority of time the garbage bins were full in the kitchen. The showers had a lot of hair. But in some way I can't accuse the cleaning staff as the real problem was dirty people!

The hostel is in the downtown, so everything was within walking distance. We came for a visa appointment and the consulate was in a less than 10 minute walk. The room was nice, just for me and my wife. The kitchen had everything you need. The staff was super nice and always ready to help!

The bunkbeds are often not close to a wall and the upper bunk doesn’t have any railing, so let’s hope you don’t move a lot at night or otherwise you might fall out. Also they are very wiggly, so both parties of the bed can feel every movement. Also a lot of the stuff doesn’t speak English properly. There was a heating problem with the second floor, and it took us a while to explain to them what the issue was.

The Cambie is right in downtown, well connected to all public transport. They have a nice common area with a small kitchen.

Of the two bathrooms, one had very old showers that drained very poorly. The other was great, though.

Great location, clean and dry facility, friendly staff. You can leave your luggage with them for a few hours after you leave the room. The kitchen/lounge has a lot of light and is a nice spot for mingling.
