Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

Aurora is a great place to stay. Fantastic staff who are happy to help with everything and speak English. Great chill out space. One of best hostels I have stayed in. The more expensive rooms are worth paying for, only a few reals more. Very clean and kitchen too

United KingdomWe did not feel particularly safe because the front door was never properly secured and it was not always monitored. For example, coming home at 2am we pushed the front door open and walked in without anyone noticing.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was good for restaurants and getting Ubers to explore the city. Good value for money given the other options in Rio. Communal areas were always busy which gave a good vibe.

BrazilThe first thing you actually book in a hostel is a bed and a pillow. Both were terrible (dormitory room). Unfortunately not worth the quite high value for a hostel in Brazil.
Extremely friendly staff (thanks Lore for all the tips) and guests in a very good structure (common spaces, lobby bar and kitchen). Strategic location in Rio.

SwitzerlandSome of the staffs aren’t very kind. The guy that checked me in, didn’t show me anything, looked so annoyed, well this can happen. Some girls working there looked a bit scary.
The dorms had big lockers and curtains. Enough outside area if you want to do exercise in the morning. I didn’t had breakfast included in my booking, but they gave me free coffee… Nice place to meet people. They first put me in a dorm without windows very stinky but they changed me to a one with windows after I told them I couldn’t sleep in a room like this. Thanks 🙏

United KingdomNo hot water. No space for belongings in room. Gaps in the window for noise and no sound propfing. The people staying were very ignorant and rude. We were woken up so early by their singing and partying (we are also a couple who were out till late) and were awoken to singing outside our room at 7am. Then the partied and screamed and shouted all night long the next day. Don’t stay here unless you don’t want to sleep till 5am and be awake by 8am

GermanyThe most amazing hostel I‘ve ever stayed in!! The staff is the best thing about the hostel they‘re all so kind and really try to help you with everything!! 24h reception so there is always someone. The hostel is full of art, plants and AC everywhere, it makes everything so comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the beds are comfortable but not like home.. that’s just normal for a hostel. Big kitchen but bring/buy oil and spices for cooking. Because off the staff‘s Sympathie everyone in the hostel is just very nice and it’s really easy to meet new people!! There is a supermarket, pharmacy, bus station and lots of nice restaurants just 5mins walk away. The neighborhood is safe. I really enjoyed staying there!! Thank you again to the staff!! You all are just so amazing ❤️

CanadaTitle: Disappointing Experience at Aurora Hostel Rio I recently stayed at Aurora Hostel Rio and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The room conditions were unacceptable, to say the least. Firstly, there was only one functioning electrical outlet in the room, which made it incredibly inconvenient to charge my devices and use essential electronics. Additionally, the refrigerator in the room was unreliable, leading to concerns about the safety and freshness of my stored food. Moreover, the presence of cats roaming around the premises, the lack of glass in the window of my room, and the infestation of flies within the room added to the discomfort of my stay. The unprofessional behavior of some staff members further detracted from the overall experience. To top it off, witnessing someone sleeping on the pool table in the common area was unsettling and not at all conducive to a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, I would not recommend staying at Aurora Hostel Rio. The numerous issues I encountered during my stay significantly detracted from the experience, and I hope the management takes steps to address these concerns for future guests.
