Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyTo walk up the hill to Babilonia, you've got to have some kind of condition, the area feels safe definitely but if you wanna order an uber in the night to get somewhere calculate in some waiting time because not every uber driver wants to go there by night
Breakfast was amazing, you have a little privacy because the bed area works like a cabin with curtains and you have space inside the cabin to leave the stuff that you don't wanna lock in too which is really nice. It's definitely on the pricier side for a hostel but the quality of beds, breakfast, chill areas, services is making up for that so it makes sense

United KingdomThe location. It is up a very steep hill that is not for the faint-hearted. If I'd known, I possibly would've picked somewhere else. I had to use uber a lot to get back to the hostel as it's not walking distance from many places of interest (apart from the beach), and it didn't feel the safest at night. Fine in the daytime, though.
I loved the social atmosphere at the hostel, mostly I think created by the friendly staff. My bunk was lovely and so spacious. Breakfast was nice, too.

how much I loooved this hostel. It’s the perfect combination between social/ party and privacy/ quiet time. The beds are the best with curtains, light, plugs and a big shelf for your stuff. Breakfast was great as well and the staff (and owner) was so welcoming and friendly. Absolutely loved the girls bathroom, it was so much fun getting ready together etc, everything was cleaned daily. You could say maybe the only downside is the locations but honestly I wouldn’t say so. It all felt very authentic and real. We even went to a local samba party in the street. The beach is at walking distance and very cosy with lots of restaurants. I can only 1000x recommend the hostel!

United StatesI wish they would close the main bathrooms on the dorm floor each day for 1 hour to bleach and deep clean them. bathrooms are nice but obviously hard to keep clean with so many people.
hands down best hostel in Rio. The owner is incredibly kind and helpful. huge place with furnished rooftop, bar, workout area and gorgeous ocean views. dorms are spacious, each bed is very private and with shelving inside / plugs, each dorm has a balcony with drying racks, strong AC at night. Great dining area, small kitchen, and separate co-working space downstairs. easy place to make friends. this is the type of place you book 2 nights and end up staying 2 weeks or more. I advise that you book at least 5 nights here as they are almost always booked solid. if you try to extend , high chance they will not have availability and if you can extend you will have to keep moving to different rooms. neighborhood is very local and 100% safe. nice to be out of and above the whole touristy Cococabana beach scene. the hill is not as bad as everyone says unless you are lazy or have trouble walking. if you are lazy there are guys on motorbikes at the bottom that will drive you for a few Real

United StatesBeing on Leme means it is a little inaccessible since you have to walk down the hill to get to anything. But once you're there you're very close to the beach. The rooms are also a little inconsistent. The second floor had a room with a broken A/C that didn't cool and leaked water everywhere.
If you need a hostel with a co-working space, this one is hard to top. It has a quiet room with two booths you can use and a large eating space that also accommodates more workers if you prefer the open air rather than A/C.

CyprusNo matter where you were at the hostel, there was a great view. Breakfast was served every morning. There was a healthy option of choices. If you wanted to bring your own food you could do so and keep it (labelled) on the shelves or in a communal fridge. Once inside, it is a very modern hostel. Feels like a hidden gem. Will definitely be back!

PortugalThe water filter is slow and doesn't give you cold water. The showers could be cleaner. The bathroom would be cleaned every day, but the walls and the doors of the shower boxes were pretty dirty.
The bed is very comfortable. There are shelves, a light and a curtain which offers a bit of privacy. Every guest also has a pretty big locker and every room has airconditioning and a terrace. The decoration is also very nice, cozy and chill. Especially the view from the hostel is amazing! There are a few activities and the owners even take you out to forró nights. Very nice! Breakfast is also very good. I loved the homemade bread and cakes.

NetherlandsI have been staying in this Hostel for about 2 months, which should speak for it self. It is a place which easily and quickly feels like home. In this period i have Seen many People coming back multiple times if they would pass by rio. They would all agree it is one of the best hostels they have been during their entire trip. I have always been able to sleep perfectly. Comfortable beds with privacy, and Space for storing your stuff! The roof terrace is great for hanging out solo or with friends, and the gym up there is very well Equipted. Loved staying in a Favela to get a sense of That as well. Always felt very very Safe. Will def come back to brazil and If Rio will be part of my trip, this will be the Place to stay. Many Thanks to Mariël, Tibu and all the Volunteers and staff for all the Great Care!
