Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Franceeverything was great
Great atmosphere thanks to the volunteers and all the activities planned! There were free dance lessons on the rooftop and common spaces were convenient to meet people. The best hostel we have every stayed in :) Also amazing breakfast with lots of homemade food!

ItalyMaybe just buy some new pans and utensils for the kitchen
Possibly one of the best hostel I have stayed at during my travels. Bathrooms are great, including soap and shampoo in the showers. Beds are extremely comfortable and “capsule” style so you have great privacy and a lot of storage capacity. The rooftop has a gym which is better than most gyms. Breakfast is great too

AustraliaRequest a bottom bunk as top bunks don't get much fresh air (like all top bunks in hostels).
Very clean, bathrooms not crowded, great rooftop bar. The hill is by no means impossible, and I used two Ubers with no issues. 10 min walk to Copacabana Beach.

United KingdomIt’s up a hill So be prepared to walk - taxis won’t pick you up but they will drop you off. They don’t serve any food besides breakfast
Clean rooms and bathrooms, great bar, reception area and rooftop bar. There’s a cowering space and also a rooftop gym. The staff are attentive and the free breakfast is adequate and also a great way to meet people. They have lots of activities and information of activities, the view is great, you can see the sea. The favela can be noisy and the owners also have young children.

United StatesOnly downsides for me - the lockers flipped upwards, making it difficult to manage the stuff inside. Only one shower & toilet for a 10 person female dorm.
Really nice and safe place to stay in Rio! It’s a short walk down to the beach. The hostel itself is beautiful with great views from the rooftop. There’s an adorable hostel dog, which is a bonus! The breakfast is so amazing & extensive.

RomaniaThe only thing I missed but it is just a personal preference is a microwave.
The hostel is really dynamic, offers lots of activities for turists, such as a free sea turtle watch, free samba classes and there is a cool rooftop bar where you can try brazilian drinks (I highly recommend it!!). The breakfast is a tiny buffet: scrambled eggs, cereals, yoghurt, ham and cheese, fruits and vegetables, everything fresh and delicios! You don’t have to worry about your stuff, there is a locker for each person under the beds where you can store your luggage and close it safely for the entire duration of your stay. Every room has a nice hammock on the balcony, I really enjoyed chilling there. The AC is working all day long, the temperature is perfect inside the room even though we were 8 people in the mixed dorm. The bathroom is cleaned daily, you get a hair dryer, you can rent towels.

BrazilI had a very good stay. Aquarela do Leme's facilites are the best I've ever seen in a hostel. The staff were always helpfull and Nicholas from reception helped me superbly with an anoying situation I had due to disrespectful roomates at the shared room. Fair to say that the situation had nothing to do with the hostel itself but with the lack of respect of the people I was sharing the dorm with.

I arrived early in the morning. The staff allowed me to leave my bags in Reception. I joined the WhatsApp group for the hostel & I managed to get on a tour for 9am! I booked all my tours via that WhatsApp group (managed by Ana who's quick at responding & is so nice!). It's so much cheaper to book tours on here than online. I went on 4 tours & each tour guide were professional & spoke both Portuguese & English (Spanish in one of the tours) & were very knowledgeable. The hostel it self, is brilliant. Believe the reviews. It is a tad up hill, either take your time walking up or use the motorbike service (R$5 /£0.71). I was nervous initially, but honestly, they're really professional & safe. So safe, that I used the service to get to Maracena so I didn't miss the football game! The hostel is brilliant. It's in a safe location. The surrounding neighbours don't make you feel uncomfortable. I booked a private room. Bed was soft, room was spacious, shower is brilliant (wait 5 mins for the hot water to turn on) & I had a good view from the balcony. Staff here really are lovely. They go out of their way to ensure you have a good stay. An example, is where I tried to check in to a domestic flight but it was in Portuguese. Tomas helped me complete the details. If there's a message on WhatsApp about Tapioca - do not miss this! I think it was Adriel that made this on the rooftop bar. Also through WhatsApp, they arrange events in the evening. This is the longest review I've ever written. I loved Rio & the hostel more than I thought I would.

LaosOccasionally uber drivers did not want to drop you off at the door as it was in a favella. I had to walk up at 5am, but it’s relatively safe.
The rooms are very spacious and your own bunk area is nice. The breakfast is very filling and nice. The gym was well equipped and bathrooms were clean. They also provided soap and shampoo. Beautiful view of the city.

United StatesThe location is up on a hill and many taxis don't want to drop you off or pick you up from there. It is in a great location in the neighborhood of Leme but it is not well located near the metro if that is your preferred mode of transportation. The breakfast was continental style breakfast and very below average. Theres bugs flying around all the food and always get stuck in the honey and jam. There needs to be a lid or a basket to prevent bugs from hanging out on the food to create a more sanitary breakfast environment. The breakfast is also made by the volunteers and the eggs are soggy and not flavorful. The breakfast ends really early so its not ideal.
Beautiful views of the city and great facilities. Rooms are comfortable and I met really cool people there.

BrazilThe Wi-fi wouldn't work properly inside the room, except if you were near the balcony. Unfortunately the weather was far from favourable, so I couldn't explore much of the city or activities during my short stay, but this has nothing to do with the hostel, of course.
Amazing staff and facilities. They organise activities and put you in touch with providers for other services (tours, dance classes, haircuts, massages...). Very young and laid back environment. Despite being in a "comunidade", you could easily find the police presence so no worries regarding feeling unsafe.

United StatesHard to think of something I did not like, but the AC was too hot at night. I’m sure I could have gone to reception and asked for it to be lowered, but I was lazy to leave my top bunk and walk down two flights of stairs in the middle of the night. The hill up and down is a bit of a workout but is short enough to still warrant staying here.
It is beautiful! A very welcome boutique style hostel in Rio with exceptionally comfortable beds, and very nice facilities. The hostel has a very cool location in a favela community called babilonia, on top of leme in copacabana, and is a very cool place to stay. The locals in the neighborhood are very friendly and overall it’s a cool experience to stay there. The bathrooms are good and clean. There is a nice rooftop for socializing and has a great view. On-site gym for a quick workout. Water refills…multiple kitchens…what is there not to like? I would definitely stay here again!

Everything from the volunteers to the styling to the details like the coworking space is designed to make this property the best possible stay in Rio, especially for folks who are juggling online work and travel. The owners Thibaut and Marielle are lovely, I’m glad to now count them as friends. As are Gugu and Adriel and the three minions — everyday faces at the hostel.
