Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyI had some problems to arrive at Melnik. I took the bus, because the train connection with Thessaloniki for some mysterious reasons does not work since 2020 (which is a scandal). Lozenica has a train station, but it is outside and even locals do not always know that a train station does exist in their town. I was lucky to find a bus to Sofia which did stop at Lozenica, but one should know that Thessaloniki has two Central Bus Stations which have no specific names to understand the difference. My bus departed from the train station and it was hard to fetch it in the last second. Afterwards no bus is going from Lozenica to Melnik (about 20 km) although it passes three times per day and bus drivers in Bulgaria are friendly and very reliable. I waved for taxis, but they did not stop. Thus, I was forced to hitch hike like in good old times.
The architecture is historical and very beautiful. Right before the window is a beautiful garden full of flowers. From there one has a nice view on the sandstone mountains. The place is very simple and modest like a monk's cell, if you stay at a Bulgarian monastery, but it has a TV (for those who need it). It was exactly what I was looking for and the price is fine. I recommend this place for visitors who have not much money, but really would like to stay in a traditional space in a historical building. I came here to hike through the mountains and visit the monastery at Rožen. The monastery was founded during the 18th century as a dependance of the Mone Iveron in Holy Mount Athos. It is Greek and the whole area is bilingual. Melnik is very famous for its wine and I recommend to look for the small less crowded restaurants where the families produce their own wine. Most of the houses have a cave with own wine and the quality is unique in the world!

PolandGreat location, in the centre of Melnik, a few meters from restaurants, cafes and shops, yet quiet and looking "secluded". The interior of the house looks like a small monastery, with rooms along the balcony surrounding the courtyard. Lovely place!

NetherlandsEverything was nice.
Melnik is a very beautiful village with very nice restaurants near the small river. You have to walk into the town (further from the main road) and climb up the hills to see the amazing view of the sandstone mountains/canyon. I stayed up for half an hour, it's incredibly beautiful. Also nice to visit is the Rozhen monestary and the wineries. I visited Villa Melnik. The owner was very nice and we enjoyed many nice wines. I also got a private tour with the owner and tasted directly from the barrels. So stay at least 2 days, or 3 days in Melnik. It's one of the nicest villages in Bulgaria.

HungaryIt was promoted on booking.com that the apartment has 30 m2 area, but it was very small, approx. 12 m2.
Very small, clean apartment in a building, with internal yard. Clean, but extremely small: anyhow, one can remember to the life of travelling dervises. Hosts was helpful, tried to do his best to feel comfortable. Anyhow, if I come back, I will stay here again.

RomaniaBathroom is a bit small, but not to the point of being unusable.
Melnik is beautiful, and the house is next to the river, on top of a string of mehanas and terraces. Very quiet, thought. The rooms are all at the first level, reached through an ill thought stair (steps were too low and narrow). We took a three beds room: it has a good size and the beds are relatively comfortably. We didn't have to use the air conditioning. The owners are nice and very accommodating.

SwitzerlandFacilities a bit aged, yet clean and well-functioning.
A wonderful authentic old house in the traditional atmosphere of Melnik. Welcoming and caring hosts, great location in the middle of the town. A lot of possibilities to explore and enjoy the local cuisine and renowned wine, to visit places of interest in the area such as old churches, historical sites or just to remain alone with Nature.
