Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaStaff weren't particularly friendly. They seemed like they were too cool to make us welcome, probably because we're the age of their parents. The bed was squeeky..
It was the cheapest we could find in town at short notice. We literally just needed somewhere to sleep.

AustraliaInconsiderate thumping excessively loud music playing until 4.30am. Not fair on people who travelled 8 hours & just wanted a descent sleep for our next 8 hour trip.

United KingdomBit noisier than normal but that is to be expected when busy. Was not a fan of the key being replaced by a phone app, especially due to my phone having charging difficulties at the time. You can get the room code from the app so it's best to write that down and not have to rely on technology
Standard Arts Factory experience, very friendly and chill place.

FranceThe bathroom was extremely dirty, as for the kitchen which was not in good condition. It was also directly in the dorm, which caused a lot of noise especially in the morning. I’m glad I booked here, but I don’t think I could have stayed more than 3 nights because of these reasons.
The place is really special, with everything you would expect for a typical Byron Bay experience. The 10 beds female dorm is very well located and spacious.

AustraliaThe kitchen is small and can become crowded and the plates, utensils and cookware provided are somewhat worn. The fridge had an unpleasant odor and the bathrooms which are cleaned once a day might not be as fresh in the evenings. A more thorough cleaning could improve the overall cleanliness. The mattresses and pillows appear to be quite old and could benefit from updating.
The hostel is in a perfect location, close to many shops and the main beach (5min drive, 15min walk) . It's charming and cozy, with artistic wall paintings and a lively atmosphere enhanced by singers and musicians. Music plays throughout the day and into the night. The entrance area features a hearth, sofas, and tables for hanging out, and there's also a coffee shop on-site. Outdoors, you’ll find workout space with equipments, a game ball net, and a peaceful breakfast table by the lake with beautiful views. Located in nature, the hostel offers a great way to connect with the surroundings.

United KingdomThere weren’t any lockers in the bedroom so nowhere to store our valuables. It was also a little bit of a walk into Byron bay.
Lovely atmosphere. Staff were very helpful, and luggage storage was available. Very spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Warm showers and good sized communal bathrooms. Very spacious room with a kitchenette inside.

United KingdomThe room was dirty and too small for 6 people plus all their luggage, the kitchen and eating area was perpetually dirty - usually a product of the guests more than the staff.
This place is what you imagine a hostel should be - a mix of gap year students and seasoned travellers. Plenty of socialising spaces indoor and out, great evening atmosphere.

NetherlandsI had a private room with my partner and for the money that we paid (similar prices to a hotel room) I would recommend to renew the mattresses. The springs of the mattress were literally poking in my stomach and back and it hurt. Lying in the bunk bed and looking up we were defintely looking at a lot of collected dust too. I know it is a hostel but when paying these prices I think these are points of consideration.
Obviously a very nice Byron Bay experience. It looks pretty cool and its nice that there is a swimmingpool and the lizzards chilling around. The coffee is great too!

AustraliaBit out of the way compared to other hostels in Byron, so a bit of a walk into town. Unfortunately it rained a lot while I was there, my dorm was a teepee so incredibly damp and quite a bit of mold. Not their fault that the weather was bad but ridiculously expensive considering it is effectively camping. Teepe accommodation should definitely be cheaper than dorms, and people warned of the dampness if weather is bad Also a very large hostel with lots of people camping out back, so was some problems with stealing.
Awesome vibe, lots of people all super friendly and many social events on to choose from. Staff were incredible, super friendly and helpful and always seemed to be plenty of them around to help. Kitchen was cleaned regularly and facilities kept mostly tidy. Lovely nature-based hostel as not in town centre, surrounded by trees
