Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomYou have to ask for a fridge and kettle. We booked a lake view room guided by the photos of a spacious double aspect room with seating and large balcony on Booking.com. Beware, these are only available in the Guest House and the balcony lake view room we were given in the hotel was narrow and disappointing, despite costing 300+ euros a night. Luckily we were able to upgrade to a suite (but at our own expense) which was lovely. Otherwise our holiday would have been ruined. Overall, the hotel is expensive to stay in but the food is good value.
The hotel stands alone in a beautiful natural spot, with an easy 5 min ferry ride to St Gilgen. There are lots of hiking and swimming spots. The boat provides easy access to St Wolfgang and Strobl. The restaurant is relaxed but excellent quality and very popular with locals. Booking is recommended. Every night we were delighted to eat the delicious specials. Breakfast was simply amazing, the chefs are superb! The staff were hard working and incredibly friendly.

The grounds of this property are so well kept. It is just gorgeous here. Breakfast was delicious, as was supper. We borrowed the bikes and visited a few towns via the bike path. The hiking was great right from the property. We were so happy we had the whole weekend here!

United StatesBear in mind that because this hotel is situated in the midst of rugged natural beauty, accessibility can be an issue. I would recommend having a car. There is paid parking at the hotel. Note that the driving to and at the hotel requires a moderately skilled driver, as there are cramped quarters for turning on-site, and steep hills with narrow roads and quickly changing speed limits to/from town. Access by public transit is doable, but complicated for foreigners. The ferry is convenient and stops right at the hotel, however, using it for transit as opposed for recreation will involve careful planning. Note that the ferry is operated by Wolfgangsee Schifffahrt (yes, three "f") and is not year-round. Consult them for timetables and fares (not cheap). You can do just fine eating at the hotel restaurant for every meal, but if you want to get to St. Gilgen or other towns around the lake, a car is essential. Also, for nightlife, the ferry is not an option. Depending what room you purchase, there may not be a refrigerator, but reception will bring one if you ask. In this case, it is a quite small portable refrigerator with less than 1 cubic foot of space in my estimation. Note also that the room key is an actual metal key on a heavy fob, which is quaint, but not so great for pocket-carry.
This hotel is quaint and magical, with splendid views of the Wolfgangsee and surrounding mountains along the lakeside path, which you can walk almost the entire distance to St. Gilgen if you like. If you prefer, the ferry stops right next to the hotel. Staff was exceptional and offered ferry tickets at reception. I won't ruin the surprise, but check-out was a nice experience as well. I did not engage in much hiking, but guests receive literature at check-in about the myriad trails of different lengths and levels of challenge, accessible from right at the hotel. I have not been to Hallstatt, but the Wolfgangsee area seems like an excellent alternative without quite as many tourists (but still a lot). Don't forget to take the sielbahn to the Zwölferhorn for stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, including Zugspitze. St. Gilgen in general is a nice, quaint town with upscale shopping as well as touristy kitch. This stay was well worth the price in my opinion, as it was an unforgettable experience filled with glorious natural beauty and wonderful, luxurious Austrian hospitality.

United StatesThere was limited staff while we were there so that there was only someone at reception for a few hours in the morning necessitating that we use a key to even enter the hotel.
The property is on an idyllic setting along the lake. Beautiful property with stunning views. The daily breakfast was fabulous.

Czech RepublicUnfortuntely the personal of the restaurant was not so polite and they prefered evening restaurant gusets instead of accomodated guests. Asking for a small favor tovards guest - probably something they don’t know. I was insulted the first day by a old guy (probably owner) that my car is too expensive and probably not electirc so I should probably not even enter the parking lot. His most inportatnt concern was not to disturb restaurant guests at the garden. So that was a hezlich willkomen from a eco-troll from Austria tbe first day. Considering the location and overall beauty of the place this was my worst experience in Austria in my life. Btw no AC in the rooms.
