All! Even though it's a simple, local and antique hotel, our stay was great! Staring by Lee at front desk that was so kind and amazing to us. If you're expecting for a super fancy and impersonal hotel, this is not for you. The stay was great because it was simple, connected to the nature and cultural. You sleep and wake up with the sound of the animals outside and it was so beautiful. Breakfast is very nice and the area you get to eat is rich of details and, of course, more nature. Price was great for the offerings. If you are a nature and local culture appreciator, that place is for you.

That's how I feel about Hawaiian Ohana Home. Cosy, homey and clean, this place is a hidden gem nested in a residential area in Hilo, away from all the noise and bustling commercial area, yet it's within minutes of drive to the busy area of the town. Sitting on a gentle slope, Hawaiian Ohana Home also offers a great view of the surrounding area. However, what makes Hawaiian Ohana Home truly exceptional is its owner, Diana. I struggle to put it in words; in short, Diana is like that cool aunt that I never had: although we've only met, it felt like I came to visit a beloved family member. I could tell that other guests shared my feeling based on the atmosphere around the table at breakfast times, it felt like a family reunion. During my trip in Hawaii, I've learned that "ohana" means "family", and Hawaiian Ohana Home certainly is true to its name. If I'll drop by Hilo again, I know where I'll be staying at.

we stayed in the Grand Naniloa hotel for the second time (the first being in 2016 just after it opened). To be honest, it was probably a better stay the first time around. The hotel is clean, and we made use of valet parking and had free drinks vouchers too. Cookies on arrival. The bed was very comfortable! For me the best bit about the hotel was the view from a partial ocean view room; and then followed by the gym., which is well equipped for a hotel. Overall the hotel is probably one of the nicest, if not the nicest we saw in Hilo.
SCP is a wonderful hotel with a natural and sustainable vibe as soon as you walk in. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating, and it’s close to the water, coffee roasters, diners and restaurants! The pool is pristine, with toys for the kids to use and fresh pool towels that are changed over often. The gardens are gorgeous and really set the island tone. We are travelling with our 18 month old and this place is just perfect for young families! Highly recommend staying here if you’re in Hilo.
Hilo Bay Hostel is unsanitary and unsafe. There is a cockroach infestation that is not being addressed, there is black mould and spores growing on the ceiling fan. Nothing has been cleaned in years. Its disgusting and most likely violating health and building codes. I stayed one night (woke up with a cockroach on the bed!!) and left immediately as soon as I was able to arrange new accommodation.
Well equipped and warmly decorated apartment in the heart of Hilo. Whale logo nicely implemented to perfection and applied to any detail. Communication and check in were seamless. We appreciated the welcome treats. We really felt like home here and would like come back anytime soon.
Hotel itself was nice and was very close to the airport and the more interesting "sights" in Hilo; they also had a restaurant that we wanted to visit, but unfortunately we didn't make it. Free water-refills and more than enough parking spaces.
The place is horrible. One of the worst places I stayed in. The staff is generally friendly. It is central to Hilo. We didnt complete our stay and instead went to a different hotel

The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls is simply enchanting! From the super friendly staff to the delicious coffee served by Hut every morning, feels special. Waking up to the waterfall's song is like a hug from nature. If you want a getaway that's pure magic, this place is it.
We were on a budget which is difficult in Hawaii but this property helped us sleep five comfortably. Very friendly staff at check in. Accommodations were modest but so is the price so that’s ok.
We can highly recommend the Orchid Tree B&B. It has a great location, close to the city center and the airport. The rooms are tastefully decorated and cozy. The exceptionally friendly landlord is always available to provide helpful tips on dining and sightseeing. The garden is a well-maintained tropical paradise, and breakfast on the terrace is simply heavenly. Everything is wonderful and invites you to stay longer. Definitely worth a visit! The Kuttnig family.
