Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. Offered a good location close to the numerous natural walks in the area. Room and bathroom was clean and amenities were provided. There was a good view from our balcony as well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, would recommend and return.

The Powderhorn Chateau is located in Ohakune, at the entrance to Tongariro National Park. Indoor pool was amazing - heated to about 38 degrees Celsius. All the walls & ceilings of hotel were wooden, such a special feel, just like we were in a ski chalet. Hotel had a bar and restaurant on site, which was great.

The Gables B&B is located in Ohakune, just 23 miles from Taranaki Falls and 27 miles from Whakapapa. The lodge had everything we need for our 2-nights stay to explore and hike nearby. Its indeed seems the hosts thought about everything. They even included some breakfast groceries which was lovely addon :) thanks very much!

Set in tranquil surroundings with large landscaped grounds and a picturesque garden terrace with mountain views, Tongariro Crossing Lodge offers uniquely spacious rooms with historic character. The room was clean, the beds were confortable. The kitchen had all that was needed to cook a nice meal. Service provided by hosts was excellent and the extra we paid for the breakfast was well worth it.

Part of a larger house, Frankie & Hugh's is a renovated, self-contained apartment located in Ohakune, just a 20-minute drive from the Turoa ski field on Mount Ruapehu. Frankie and Hugh's felt like home away from home. Marlene and Wayne were great host and made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We found the property clean, spacious and well maintained. The breakfast was good and we very much enjoyed our stay at the property.

The top apartment had a marvellous view of the Tongariro National Park - priceless. The space of the room was very comfortable and extremely clean. Very quiet at night. Close to restaurants and supermarket, a bonus in this area. Choose to stay in National Park rather than Whakapapa Village as you have options to either cook in the room or go out. The lovely staff was super helpful when I required a last-minute change to my reservation. I would stay here again and I recommend this place.

The room we were in was spacious and clean, but the bathroom was getting a bit old (the toilet was leaking). It is good enough for a few nights' stay, and the hostel is well located for hiking in the Tongariro National Park. They offer shuttle services for the Tongariro crossing. The staff is friendly and helpful.

This is a self catering, well equipped, modern apartment with two bedrooms (each with king sized beds - which can be separated as required). Nice shower/bathroom (no toileteries supplied). Very good laundry facilites in the apartment. Very convenient for the Tongariro national park and Tongariro Crossing.

Great location, good facilities for short stay
It was the perfect size and setup for our weekend getaway. Had all the necessary bits like plates, bowls, cutlery, coffee making items, hairdryer, etc. there were lots of clean towels and the bed+ beddings were very comfortable.
It was warm, clean, nice and cosy! The room was clean and pleasantly warm - much appreachated at that time! Shared space was very nice, well-organised. Always smiling lady gave us good advice what to see despite not very good weather-thank you :)
five star service and premises
My partner and I stayed at the River Lodge during our Christmas/ summer holiday and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you.
The location was excellent and the service was great. We appreciated the consideration of which room we were put in and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We loved the spa bath and the kids loved seeing the mountain first thing in the morning. Thank you!

I love the fact the cabin we stayed in had two sets of bunk beds. It makes fitting a young family of 5 really easy!
Everything is Good and comfy the staff’s their are so friendly and they will assist you right away, they also have free breakfast and also hot coffee and chocolate
Just a perfect place! The Chalet (nr 22) had everything you could wish for & state of the art appliances! Better then home ;) !
